  • I have a 1950 3100, I'm in the process of putting the clutch plate back in and I'm confused as to how it goes in. I took it out because upon letting the clutch pedal out I got a grinding noise. I removed the clutch and pressure plate and discovered that the spring on the clutch plate were grinding on the fly wheel bolts. I belive the prior owner had the clutch in backwards, but when I've asked various others they all tell me that the center raised hub that sticks out a inch or so should go toward the pressure plate? I held the clutch plate up to the flywheel and found that if I installed it that way the springs would grind against the bolts. I then fliped it around and had the hub recess into the flywheel and it seems to have plenty of clearence. What is the correct way to install the clutch plate. The engine is a 235 out of a 1960 Impala and the rest I'm not sure of, the clutch and pressure plate are 10". Any Help?
