I took a 261 out of a 1958 wheat truck, had it rebuilt, and am running it in my 1951 3600. The original carb was shot, so I'm running a rebuilt 235 carb. I'd like to find a carb like what came on this engine, with the wider intake throat. Any suggestions?

    Maybe try a Carter ? .

Finding the correct 'B' series Rochester will take some time and effort .

What was wrong with the original carby making it un restoreable ? .

A sad story, actually, I hate to even tell. The rebuilder made the judgement call that the carb was un-restorable, so he turned it in as the core for a rebuilt, which was obviously the more available 235 vintage. Nothing I could do, it was long gone. What I have works fine, I just know I'm giving up some by not having a carb made specific for my 261.
