Quick hood alignment
The key to getting the AD hood to lay flat against the cowl is outlined in detail in the Stovebolt link above. However, getting it to lay flat if the hood is not damaged could be accomplished in the time it takes to read all the information provided. Having aligned a number of them without any need for all the extra information:
1. It's best accomplished with 3 people.....one on each side of the hood back at the cowl area, and one to snug down the in-cab nuts.
2. A 4" block is used to prop up the hood at the latch.
3. Each of the 2 helpers puts one hand on top of the hood and the other on the side and both apply even heavy pressure down and back. Bare hands work best. Like so many things, friction is your friend. The cab-man snugs down the nuts.
4. Raise the hood carefully, tighten the engine compartment hinge bolts, remove the block and carefully lower the hood so you won't scratch the fenders.
5. Shim the fenders at the core support as needed.
The key is to have even (heavy) pressure at the cowl. Hope this helps,
Dave
