Headers?

I am new to this fourm and hot rods. This is my first build of my own. I have a 1954 3100 with a 283 out of a 64 impala. I was curious about finding headers that will clear the stock steering box or steering box mod?. the motor has ram horn mainfolds on it now and they are basicaly touching. Plez help!

We have a pair of cast iron Fenton "Black Widows" for Small Block Chevies that should work.

Yea.... Fenton didn't make very many of them for the SBC.

Thanks for the sugestion. They are different looking thats for sure. Im not sure if thats what im looking for. regular block huggers wont work?

I used a cheap set of block huggers from Speedway for $59.95 and I cut 1" out of rear tube on left rear and welded back together. But I still had to move the steering box over 1". That was on my 1953 3600 that I put a 350 in last winter. It worked goo for me.

Buy QUALITY headers, cheap ones WILL crack. Block huggers work well, check out Speedway's ram horns. These will be my next block headers.

fenton black widows

Theres a guy in Ca. that has a pair of those for sale. Saw them on e-bay recently.

There is a shop in (or nearby) Moorehead, Minnesota that will send you a kit to mock-up headers that will clear everything and then you send this to them and they will build a set that is EXACTLY like the mock-up. The surprising part is the total cost is in line with any other quality header. Not knowing they existed when we needed headers for a 57 Studebaker Golden Hawk we went to a lot of time and expense to mock up a set using defroster duct and styrofoam to give them rigidity. Just made up some flanges with 1" of tubing tacked to them for a place to clamp the defroster duct and taped the tubes together at the collector end. The styrofoam spots on the ducts are bleed holes to let the air escape when shooting the foam in from the ends. The headers made from these patterns fit like a glove. If there is any interest I will go back through paper work and try to come up with a name.
