Took some pics of trailer hitch We bolted it on the frame 2 bolts on each side so i can remove it if i want. Hope you can make heads or tails of the pic its kind of hard to take pics of it on the truck idont know what happend to the pic of it off .

My '49's tow hitch is similar but not nearly as well made .
 
Light towing

Ifn I was you I would stick to light towing with that, there's a chence a heavy trailer could do damage to your truck the way you used the bumper as a mounting point, and the distance from the ball to the solid crossbar will allow leverage to happen,

Light Towing

My trailer weighs in at about 1400 Lbs.
 
Looks good and should handle your trailer. Here are some pics of a 48 we did that had no rear bumper but the owner wanted a hitch. The receiver bolts to the frame rails plus a couple of braces up to the spare tire crossmember. One hitch tube that slides into the receiver has a license plate sized steel plate welded on for the license to bolt to and the other is for trailer balls. The final shot isn't good because of the reflective license plate.

Now thats a hitch mine is more amature but hopefully its stays together so far so good.
 
Just Remember :

To check the tightness of the various nuts & bolts EVERY TIME you go to tow anything ! .

SAFETY KNOWS NO SEASON ! :eek: .
 
bolts up to the frame

this one should do the trick as it bolted right up to the frame. i still have no idea of the towing capacity though for my 1/2 ton. i thought i had a pic of it with the bumper on, but can't find it right now. I am not crazy about the location of the hitch receiver as it ended up above the bumper, but i think i have seen ball hitch adapters that can come out and down to match the height of your trailer.

looks good

I think it should handle more weight than mine as its bolted on heaver than mine what are you going to tow
 
Reciever Hitch

That looks good and yes , they make many different drop drawbars to suit .

Remember to get the beefiest 2" ball you can find ! .
 
Oh , My !

That looks like one of my old trucks .

I always added the rope hooks to the tailgate so my tarpaulins wouldn't flap.
 
BTW, today and yesterday the Ventura Nationals were at the Ventura Fair Grounds and the show had the Trailers featured in it this year. It will not be called anymore the Primer Nationals. Nice rides, did not have a camera or did not enter the 48.

I had a '63 airstream but had to sell it. I'd like to get a smaller one someday when the truck is done. I will probably look for one of those small canned ham style trailers. Something small and lightweight that I can pull cross-country.
 
Trailers

Oh boy Airstream land yachts, a bambi that needs restoring (read wreck) goes for $14,000 and up, for a full size restored one your looking at $40,000 upwards over here, there are quite a few over here and there's a gal who sells vintage clothes from one at rod meets etc towed by..............a 50's chevy pick up!!!! Looks such a cool rig going down the road, jealous? Me!:D

The teardrops are getting popular over here mainly cos you can build a nice one for little bucks.
