i just had a thought. i see alot of information on doing a s-10 frame swap. but this is for short bed trucks to a long bed s-10frame. I have thought about doing this, but it just hit me. i have a LONG BED gmc 100. what frame would i use?
Something that has a similar wheelbase . Take your tape measure to the junkyard and begin checking newer truck chassis that have IFS untill you find one that's close . Remember to save all the old , rusty , greasy worn out stock parts as others will want them .
Hey flipper we haven't seen pics in a while, or atleast I haven't. Is your truck done yet? Pics please.
After I didn't make Louisville, I have been sorta coasting. I hot wired it and cranked it, moved it forwards and back..............and kinda stopped there. I need to paint my dash before I wire the truck. And I also need to make a cool gas pedal.
I understand I haven't touched my truck in almost a month and with the holidays coming up, well looks like it's gonna set some more.
Check out a Dakota club cab short bed frame. Much heavier than the s10, track width is nearer to stock, and you can run the origional 6 lug wheels.
Has anybody swapped to a early 80's full size shortbed frame? I have a 51 cab but no body yet. The truck was originally a 3/4 ton but I would like to make it a shortbed.
the track width is too wide on the fullsize truck. OUR OLDIES MEASURE CLOSER TO MODERN MIDIZE TRUCKS.
I'm just going to throw my two cents in here. Not sure why the push for a new frame. Depending on what you want it may be a good idea for you. I took the stock frame, put an IFS on it, modern rear axle and boxed the original frame. To me, its as good as any frame. The price was extensive, but I also didn't have to try to make something work, and everything is now new. I know everything will fit up with little issue. Just a thought... Andy
