I blew out both front axle shafts at the u-joints on my '78 3/4 ton - sheared the ears right off the trunnions. Learned big lessons that one should keep the u-joints greased "really" well when running a welded diff, AND not to let friends drive my truck in heavy packed snow. Its got a GM 10 bolt axle with manual hubs. Will shafts from 1/2 ton 10 bolt axles fit?

I don't believe that the axles from a 1/2 and 3/4 tons are interchangeable.

are you sure that you have gm 10 bolt axles you should have a dana 44 and dana 44 and gm 10 bolts 1/2 and 3/4 are almost completely interchangeable, that is dana parts with dana parts and gm parts with gm parts.
I have a '83 chevy 4x4 1/2 ton (corp. 10 bolts) I changed caliper mounting plates, calipers, rotors and hubs to 3/4 ton and you'd never know it wasn't factory. I even used my old locking hubs and did not change spindles these axles are usually very interchangable.
