Well, I hooked everything up yesterday per the above (thanks for the manifold fitting Russ!) and the wipers flip right over to wipe the windshield but don't want to flop to park until I manually switch them off. I assume that the driver isn't supposed to switch them on and off :rolleyes: to get the wipers to flip-flop back and forth. Any advice on how to remedy the vacuum system (short of going electric) would be welcome.

That is funny!! Mine do this too, Im sure your right they aren't supposed to do that, but mine do, oh well adds more charicater right?
 
Stalling Vac. Wipers

O.K. ~ you're almost home ! .

Look up Ficken Wiper Service in New York and mail him your old vacuum motor , I forget the co$t (it's been years) but IIRC it was $65.00 or so , your wipers motor needs rebuilding and it'll be *perfect* when you get it back .

I know I posted the info here years ago when I had him do mine ~ he's the guy who bought up ALL Trico's stock when they stopped servicing vacuum wiper motors .
 
Wiper motor rebuild

X2 on Ficken's, Larry. My neighbor had one done there a few years ago for his old Plymouth...worked great when finished. I need to do this too one of these days.

OK - I'm sold. I just need to find the time (and patience) to crawl into the cab and bust some knuckles and yell a few expletives...

In the Hemmings it has in your state; Rowlandsantique auto parts, trico-rebuild, 509.829.5026 seeing your in Wa. , I need to also send my wiper motor to be fixed, the on to off and back gets old. :)

My point was...

...vacuum seems to work just great and is half the price of electric. FYI - I'm enjoying rebuilding my truck back to near original. (wiperman = Ficken)

The originals work fine *if* you dot all the i's and cross all the t's .

Electric ones work O.K. but won't have the correct knob .

back in the day , we used to use VW Beetle wiper motors to make vacuum to electric conversions , it's a fairly simple job .

< 1967 VW's all had 6 volts .
 
I have a 55 1st, and when I converted it to 12 volt I installed electric wipers. I believe I bought them from our host. They fit well and used the original knob. You don,t even know that they are electric, the look original.
 
Love the video, Larry! These "looking through the window of a moving AD" video clips are fantastic to view. That is, especially for those of us that have yet to get ours back together...
Love the original radio, also!
