I also asked this question on the general "suspension" board too.

Its time to replace my old 235/75/15 tires, looking at 275/60/15 on steel 6 bolt 8" wide chevy rims (typical 73-87 4x4 rims).

I see a lot of guys using this size on the rear but only one or two guys using them on the front... which happened to be a 68-72 models.

Has anyone tried 275/60/15 tires on the front of a 60-66?? if so, were there any fit issues when lowered 3.5"?

    Thanks

I cant really say for sure but looking at my truck (65 SWB Fleet)with 255/60 15 ( 27.1" tall) on 8" rims, and 1.5" lower springs I wouldnt have the room for a 1" taller tire and 2" more drop. ( 275/60 15 are 28" tall) and it's standing still, with roll and stuff, It would get into the tire I think.

The only way to say for sure is take it to the tire shop, tell them you want the 275's unless they wont clear, when they put them on, you like, you keep. if you no like, go shorter tire.

Top pic is 8.5/15 slots, several tears back on all four corners, two lower pics are with 8/15 ralleys, second pic of ralleys with truck lowered where it is now, if you run 275/ 60/15 on the front, and you plan on running disc brakes you`ll have to convert to the newer style of modular disc from the 88-98 chevy truck. the earlier disc brakes will move your wheel center line out 3/4 inch per side, right at the fender lip in the front, the modular will not move them out but a 1/4 of an inch.

I like it, Your stance looks great!

I do plan on converting to discs.. was planning on the typical 73-87 2.5" lowering spindles with 1" lower springs.... Do you have more information on the 88-98 front disc swap?

    What A arms are used?
    what ball joints are used?
what spindles/disc combination is used (need to be 6 lug so 4x4 1/2 ton)?
what tie rod ends are used?

88-98 frame is welded solid with the front cross member, can't just bolt it on like the 73-87 swap.

Rims are done but haven't got tires yet, been paying other bills & working on my 49 international. Still undecided on tire size for the front. I think I'll order two tires for the rear then try them on the front to see how they fit... once I lower it of course.

Hopefully very soon. I will be through Varney on Sunday evening on way home from Owen Sound, had planned on giving you a call.

    Cheers.

There is a big car show in Mt Forest this Saturday, we are taking our caddy and will be there bright and early (starts at 8am). Hope to see your truck there! if not we will drop by on way home from owen sound on Sunday.
