Original paint trucks.

First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Jason, I am in Cape Girardeau MO, and I love old rusty trucks. If I can help anyone, I can be contacted at [email protected]. I have a couple of questions/statements as I really have not talked with many people about my trucks. I have a 1948 5 window half ton and a 1950 3600, both of which are still in original green paint. Don't get me wrong, it is not the "it has been in storage since 1951" paint but is "kept in a garage after use on the farm paint". There are scratches on both of them and dents here and there, but I love the way the old farm trucks look. Neither have rust through anywhere, and they even have the neat lines around the cab. I think the worn through paint, dings, and scratches give the old animals character. Are there more people that like seeing these kinda trucks around or is it just me? There was a post on here just recently that a guy was going to repaint his grandfather's blue old truck for $8000, and I thought the truck looked awesome the way it was. A truck like that just drew your eyes in a way that the repainted trucks at car shows cannot. Ok, I must be tired, and before I get misty eyed, I will stop. I hope I have not offended anyone and if not I have a few other questions regarding my 1948.

You're a man after my own heart ~ I too love unrestored old trucks & cars , you can polish up that old original paint and have it clearcoated to keep it looking just like that pretty much forever...

I have a POC '49 3100 series work truck , it earns it's keep and has been in continuous commercial service since 1949 , looks it too . many
_MANY_ paint jobs sad to say .

I like them rusty too. I'm doing this one for my dad. S-10 frame swap on 20" Centerline smoothies. It sits lower than this now that the engine and trans are in.

......and the paint is staying as is

It has been a fun build so far. We hope to have it driveable by the end of June (Goodguys -Nashville show).

We went to great lengths to preserve the "character" and yet make it structurally sound.

What's your plan for the bed? Looks like a flat bed?

Yeah, its a flatbed. The truck was originally a 3/4 ton.

I think its gonna be cool. .....and different.

It now has and engine, transmission, and driveshaft !!!!!

I like it. The part that sticks out to me is all the deluxe cab stainless trim. It seems to exaggerate how much the exterior has "aged". It is certainly unique. I have a hunch that you will get more doubletakes than you would driving a shiny one. Keep up the good work.

This how it was sitting when we bought it. I thought it was too cool to pass up. There has been quite a bit of patching to the parts you don't see on the outside.

.........it will have a nice interior with air conditioning!!!!

Any 49 Chev Sedan Delivery owners out there?

Jason, speaking of misty-eyed, I almost got that way reading your post at the top. I lived in Cape Girardeau from 1972-75, and had my first AD truck then. It was a black '51 five window, no rust, 6 banger with some awesome wrist-pin rattle. Me and a couple of Air Force buddies, along with a couple of six-packs of Bud, "overhauled" it in my driveway one day. We didn't have a press to change out the wrist pins. Great truck.....sold it to a guy for $250 so I could buy a gold '73 MGB, but that's another story......I hope that old truck is still tooling around the Cape as I write this.

Engine Rattles

Great story Bob ! .

If you couldn't get the wrist pins out , the rattle was much more likely to have been piston slap from a collapsed skirt ~ I've had a few like that .
