While reading the 60-66 Chev Truck "Idea Page" I noticed the article about replacing factory chev truck door checks with those from 84-2001 Jeep Cherokees. My 66 door checks were lost by the body man :mad:and I went junk-yarding today, looking for the Cherokee door checks.

I found several Cherokees and all were missing the driver's side door checks. I ended up getting two that match from the front passenger sides of two mid 80's Cherokees for $3 each. Unlike the ones in the Idea Page article, these had no rubber bumpers on them. It appears that... when turned 180 degrees thay will work on right or left front doors. They have 2 notches for different opening distances. They DID NOT come off a Grand Cherokee and are definitely from front doors. Ebay has a few Cherokee door checks, but the only ones without rubber bumpers are for back doors and they have longer travel with no notches. The ones I bought will fit into my 66 doors (not yet on the cab).

Can anyone verify if these will work like the ones on the Idea article?

The price was right ($3.00 each) so I snagged them.

Those are the ones you want, not grand cherokee....! Some guys have used the rear door checks, it allows the doors to open further almost too far...

I knew I was getting them off the right model Jeep. However, these don't have any rubber bumpers and I wonder if the notched shaft will "pull thru" and seperate from the mechanism because they don't have a hefty stop. Whatchathink?

    Up graded Door Checks

Looks good to me ~ the end of the pull rod appears to have a curved hook to prevent pulling through .

Thanks...I hope so. Once the doors are on I will put it to the test with some padding between the door and fender so I don't get the dreaded "smiley face" :D

The rubbers are inside the door, you should have gotten them with the rest.

If there was rubbers inside the doors of the Jeeps I took them off of, I sure didn't feel them when I reached inside the door to take the checks out. Maybe the rubbers were glued inside the door. I sure don't want to return to that junkyard (60 mile round trip). It certainly seems to me that there should be some type of cushioning. I think I'll just make some. Thanks.

Thanks Woogeroo...I read the old thread. Still haven't installed my doors because every thing in/on them has to be rebuilt and the parts just arrived. Looking forward to testing-out the Jeep door checks.

I have the rear door checks installed on my 66 for over 12 years now and they work great, they came off the shoebox square Cherokees , mine didn't have rubber bumpers, a pain to remove easier to install

I finally installed the doors on my 66 C10 and got to test the Jeep door checks. They are great. Take a look at the attached photos and you will see the first stop, the 2nd stop, and the opening at the leading edge of the door when in the 2nd (full open) position. The doors stop firmly and there's none of this flailing-about when opened. Real big folks may require more of an opening.:D

    Cool!
I keep forgetting to look for those when I visit the wrecking yards.
