Okay guys quick question can anyone tell me how to tell what model my ole 52 is?? Every time I go the the auto parts store they ask me and I always say the 100 am I right?? I have a 1952 GMC 1/2 ton truck. Not the original motor it has a 235 six cylinder.
1952 half ton The model is 3100. If you are purchasing engine parts or accessories, you will want to now the year of manufacture for your 235. On the starter side of the engine, look for a 4 alpha numeric with any letter A through J and three digits to follow. Ken's 50 will let you know exactly wth date of manufacture for your 235. best regards, Jim
Hate to disagree with Jim, but the model is a 101-22 (short bed half ton) or 102-22 (long bed half ton, which I don't know if they actually made in your year). If you still have the number plate on the driver's side cab door jamb the whole serial number (it starts with the model number) will be on the plate. That said, you no longer have the "22" which indicated a real GMC 228 engine. Maybe someone on this forum can tell you how to identify your 235 Chevy engine by looking at casting numbers on your engine.
If you post the numbers that are stamped into the pad right beside where the distributor fits into the block we can probably ID your 235.
Gonna get it thanks Guys I'll get those numbers tonight.. I knew it wasn't the original motor for the ole girl and I do still have the plate for the truck so I will ck that out. Thanks again for all the great info.
