2.26.17 Hi all ; I'm looking for a diagram or photograph of the rear side mounts that shows the steel tube running through it.... I've been searching the forums and came up dry . I know these are often lost upon engine removal and someone was asking me where they fit . Please help . TIA,
Nate, Do the mounts set on a straight or angled crossmember? Sounds like maybe the angled so the big biscuit on top has a cast in rubber tube for the steel tube to slide into. Set top biscuit in place and then work the bottom biscuit up from the bottom till it is fully seated in the top one. Now a square steel plate goes up into the bottom biscuit followed by a lock washer and bolt. All the crud has to be cleaned out of the crossmember for the bottom biscuit to slide up into place--not a problem with you. I don't know how to do a sketch and since the tube is captured inside the mount a picture is probably of no value.
Thanx Evan ; It's for a remote Customer who asked me for assistance, why I need a diagram or photo . Correct, if mine there'd be no need to clean anything . I'm hoping to find an exploded parts book diagram showing the tube thing . Is Chevrolet Obsolete in....(? Ga.?) still around ? they used to use factory parts illustrations but I don't have their address .
UPDATE : Chevrolet obsolete is out of business . I tried Chevs of The 40's but they're all about Hot Rods now..... Someone must have an old parts book or motor mounts in a milk crate they can take photos of.....
I have never seen any type of "steel rod" on the rear motor mounts. The photo from my manual shows the mount exactly as my mount is: A "L" shaped mount that fits in the palm of your hand, with 2 bolts to the bell housing and in the case of my 51, 2 bolts to the crossmember, per side.
The 54+ bellhousinng has the "pipe"thats being referred to. It has an angled motor mount and different rear crossmembsr. Theres a long bolt that screws in from the bottom , into the bellhousing. That bolt goes thru the pipe.
Thanx guys ! . Joe ; I love your avatar ! I guess that dates me . The page from the Old Car manual Project had a photo I can use....
