I was ordering a few parts a week or so ago and I always thumb through the paper catalog to see if there is anything else I need. I ran across this Push Rod Cover Gasket GMC-Classic Chevy Truck Parts listing for GMC pushrod cover gaskets. Claims to be correct for GMC 228,236,248,270,302 engines. I'm pretty sure the shorter stroke engines ( 228,236 and 248) use one gasket and the longer stroke 270 & 302 engines use a different gasket. GMC Master Parts Books show GM part # 2135925 for 228 through 248 engines and 2135926 for 270 & 302 engines. Also different part numbers for the pushrod covers.

Hey Bill, thanks for pointing that out. I got some advice from one of our parts managers/techs this morning who looked into it some more, and he agrees that a 302 would use a different gasket, but believes a 270 uses the same as 228, 236, and 248.

I went ahead and removed 302 from the description of the 80-202 gasket on the website, and will make sure the change also gets made in the next version of the printed catalogs. But, regarding the 270, if you're pretty sure about it, I can go back and double check with our parts manager.

I'd double check. 270 and 302 have the same 4" stroke. The smaller engines have a 3 13/16" stroke. The height of the block on the 270/302 is 3/32" (half of the stroke difference) more. I think all the difference in height is made up behind the pushrod cover.

But, it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong (this afternoon).

WAS I WRONG! Measured a friends 270 today and the cover was exactly the same height as my 228. Please put your catalog entry back like it was. Sorry for the wrong information.
