Hi, I need to replace my 2 differential side bearing on my rear axle of my chevy 1/2 ton 51's. But I didn't found it. Pherhaps another name of "differential side bearing" is "carrier bearing" ? Does anyone has an idea ? Thanks in advance. Steve
Yes, they're the same thing. There are six bearings in the rear end, two on the pinion, two at the outer ends of the axles and the two on the carrier. These last two seem to get a variety of names, but basically if you're not talking about the pinion or axle bearings - then it's these. Don't forget, when you strip down the diff you'll need a bunch of seals, shims and bushings to get it to fit up again. You might as well get one of the rebuild kits then you're sure to be good. Plus (big plus this) you'll need some specialist kit to get it all to align correctly. If you don't it'll be noisy and wear swiftly. Take a look in the shop book. This was one of the jobs I really didn't fancy myself, so I took the axle out of the truck and dropped it off with the rebuild kit at my local gearbox and axle shop. Took them half a day and it's spot on.
I always like to drop a rare earth magnet inside the banjo housing , it'll collect SWARF that would otherwise circulate in your new bearings and etc....
More Nate acronyms!!!! ARRRRRRGH!!! SWARF??????? What the heck is SWARF?????? IIRC, FLAPS, SWMBO, etc. I think you need to make us up a list. Let's call it "Nate's complete list of acronyms". I am certain there are others that aren't printable. You can include those to see if we can figure them out, too. My personal favorite is GTFOH. (HINT: It originated in Brooklyn). It doesn't apply to anyone on this forum BTW. Andy
I agree 100%. Someone needs to post the "mfua" Then, we can all use them accordingly. BTW, mfua stands for "most frequently used acronyms".
" Swarf " Chiro ~ LOL ! I can say this in a manner making it acceptable in mixed company but I dunno if O.K. to post it here , even cleaned up " SWARF " is a machinest's term , from the Norwiedjan ' SVARF ' meaning particals of metal from wear or abrading , cutting etc. - it's the tiny bits of ground up metal you occasionally see in your drain oil... Bad stuff unless you're sweeping it up in the shop....
OBTW : Brit-Isms Just because I know there's a certain Britisher lurking here I'll toss in that the Brits call these : ' Crown Wheel Bearings ' Always finding fairies at the bottom of your garden
Gawd blimey, me ol' muckka, aint never no not eard that name in few score years! Unfortunately the Queens English used by the motor vehicle tradesmen in our country has been overun by the younger, cheaper American 'slang' sorry, I mean language, and we now call them carrier bearings as well. ________ TOYOTA G ENGINE HISTORY
Bi-lingual me, English and Cockney! Jive? as in Airplane the movie? ________ ALASKA MEDICAL MARIJUANA
Just so although it sounds a bit different in the real Ghetto where I live , it can be a bugger to understand .
Hey Brit, Yes, "Jive" as in Airplane the movie, but THAT jive is way dated. the NEW jive is way worse and harder to understand, just like cockney. Never could get cockney, but haven't really heard much of it. BTW, "GTFOH" stands for "get the f*** outta here", usually as an expression of disbelief as in, "Monica did WHAT to Clinton in the Oval office? Get the f*** outta here!" It is usually uttered as if it is one word like "Getthef***ottahere." Same as fuhgedaboudit (forget about it). Andy
Nate I can definately tell you've worked on BMW's at some point. You like the acronym's way to much. Hell BMW likes them so much that their name is an acronym (crazy ass German's) (If that offends anybody then don't get your panties in a wad, I love BMW's ) I agree with everyone else, I need a list to figure them out
Der Beemer Up Fixin' As far as I can tell , ' BMW ' means : Bring My Wallet ! I have indeed worked on a few , prolly because I own 7 of them , including the one William Shatner bought then abandoned as he didn't like it ~ I do ! . OBTW : these are Beemers (motos) as opposed to Bimmers (cars) . Mostly /5 series bikes . We had one BMW 2002 @ at the shop , it belonged to the owner's GF and was painted just the right shade of yellow as to periodically attract HUGE swarms of bees..... Plus , it blew a head gasket every 13 months just like clockwork , regardless of milage ~ go figure .
BMW there is a racist version in england which i wont repeat, not bad cars but no character, ok if you wanna sleep on the freeway! as for language, you wanna try understanding the south london kids, mostly the coloured ones, they have a london accent but try and emulate the american rappers they see on mtv! or the kids on their mobile phones sending text messages, mate becomes m8 and lol is laugh out loud, see becomes c but what really gets me is they spend an hour sending, waiting for replies and then answering with mostly 3 word messages, when they could say it all in a 30 second call, kids! ________ Big tits spanish
It's not just BMW that goes for the acronyms, it's a general Euro thing with FIAT, SEAT, SAAB and of course VW, not forgetting the recently deceased MG, or the trucks of MAN and ERF and I guess there must be a ton of others...
MORE Acronyms ! Yabbut ; Do you know what " C.H.E.V.R.O.L.E.T. " means ? Hint : it goes all the way back to the StoveBolt days....
WOW a 2002, Nate when we see those roll in the service drive it's like cockroaches scattering when you turn on the lights. Nobody wants to work on that car. Bring My Wallet, that's pretty darn funny, never heard that one before. I agree I own a BMW and I know how to fix it but it's still costly. As you guys know though, my wife wanted one, so I had to buy her one. It keeps her happy, plus I get to drive it everynow and then myself.
