Warning !! I hope you guys know to never use chemicals to ease arthritis pains ! my ex-father in law used to rub brake fluid into his knees to ease the pain , I told him to stop and take his S.S. provided Meds but brake fluid is only .99 CENTS down @ the .99 CENTS Store ya know ..... Then his liver & kidneys began packing it in after 10 years of this madness.... Writhing in total pain in a bed full of chunder and poo isn't any fun , not much we can do for him now........ PLEASE guys ~ be extremely carefull when using chemicals ! holding a carby and spraying it down with carb cleaner is a bad idea ! chemicals that get on your skin (hands usually) make a beeline to your kidneys and liver..... Oh yeah ~ park brake cables .
i use zep and it works better than anything i have ever seen, maybe its because i go to my cousins alignment shop and get it for free. I HAVE NOT FOUND A BETTER PRODUCT FOR THE PRICE! ________ TOYOTA F3R HISTORY
My experience with the repo emergency brake parts has been good. Just about every part of the ebrake was gone on my 49 1/2 ton, rebuilt it with repo parts and it works just fine. Dave
You know guys Nate brought up a good point with the chemicals. When I first started in the business I was forced to wear latex rubber gloves when working on cars (company policy). Now I can't hardly even touch a wrench unless I have them on. I know they get a little hot in the summer but once you get used to them you can't live without them. They are also cheap insurance for protecting your skin in the future. Go to a Sam's club or Costco and buy a two box pack (200 gloves) for less than $10. Your hands will thank you later. Okay that was my safety tip for the day.
Kevin, I agree with you 100%. Now let me ask this question: how many of us out there have spent several countless hours with our bare hands submerged in kerosene cleaning gunk-laiden parts? I for one am guilty of that.
Give it time Nate. They all do sooner or later, well maybe except for all of the newer plastic cars. Maybe they'll melt one day!
I know what ya mean. Kerosene soaked pistons, or just other parts in mineral spirits. How about just cleaning parts with carb cleaner or brake cleaner. I mess with it everyday and surely hope I don't pay for it in my retirement days.
i hear u kevin, well i dont and cant wear latex gloves due to a skin condition and if i do get a chemical on my skin i just grin it and bear it. twisting wrenches is what i like to do on my days off and enjoy every minute of it. espically getting split knuckles!!
won't help... Saying things like "I like split knuckles" wil NOT keep the Wrench Gods from keeping your wrench from slipping the next time you go to use one. I know- I've already tried that.
I guess when I mentioned the old fella that used WD40 on his knuckles I was really thinking about his eccentricities, not his genius in doing so. I wholeheartedly agree that these chemicals have a detrimental long-term effect. Before I started sitting behind a computer 8 hours a day I had a real job making lithographic printing ink for printing presses in Illinois, Wisconsin, Kentucky and Tenn. Everywhere I went I saw the guys that had been in the business a ling time and they usually had two things in common. They were usually missing a finger or something that they had lost in the big mills that we used to grind and shear the ink and they usually had developed some level of shake from long-term exposure to the solvents that we would use. 6400, you are a young man. You are still in that age where you think it will happen to others but never to me. Forgive me if I am wrong but that is how I was and that is how I think most folks are at 18 - 25 or so. Please take the advice of us more mature (old) guys when we say to protect yourself from these log-term exposures. OK, no more preaching. Bill

Stoddard Saftey Solvent ! killer of millions of tradesmen That stuff was DA BOMB ! ~ I'd toss entire engines in my GreyMills parts washer and have at it , clean 'em like new and NO flash rusting after rinsing them off , paint laid right on and stuck well..... So what if it gave John some wierd cancer they've never seen before and he'll not live to see his grandbabies grow up They still don't require us to wear the gloves but we have both types , Latex (ick-poo) and Nitrile ~ those are the ones i use along with most of the other guys . -Nate

Spec.grey market cars are ~ that's why we get them in America : they won't pass the rigerous safety inspections in Germany and so are junked for $100.00 or so , someone snaps thm up and ships to America where a sucker pays good $ for it since it looks O.K. and runs great...... Actually i know it will happen to me in the long run. Its just a matter of time really. and like I said i can't wear latex due to allergic reactions but ever since I had a little accident a while back I have actually taken saftey a little bit more serious.
Gloves & Allergies This is NO excuse not to wear gloves ! they have hypo-allergenic gloves for the same price.... If your hands hurt as much as mine do every day , you'd get on board with this right away ~ don't let it get you too ! -Nate
