Okay, this may sound like a dumb question but my truck bed is not right here for me to take this measurement from. Could one of you guys go out to your truck with a measuring tape and tell me as close as possible the diameter of the rolled tube at the top of the bedside on a 47-53?

I need to fit a pipe in one side so it will match the other side that already has a pipe in it. Long story.

    Thanks,
    Bill

    pipe size

Tailgaiter, I would be glad to do that for you IF I had a bed to measure. But mostly I just want to say AGAIN,,,,,,,,, I DON'T have a bed yet, thanks to my cousin... but he did say for the 8th week in a row "were gona paint it NEXT week" GRRRRRRRRRRRRR  I guess I think it makes me feel better to vent.

From what I remeber when I had one and measured it for something I needed, it was approx. 1 1/4 inch

    Peas!

Boy, now that makes me feel better, all the while the Boops cryin in her peas.

    Just funnin,,,,

This project has been goin on for a year, and as I said, it was a trade work for work. I did electrical contracting for 10 years commercially and there ain't much I'm good at but if I can brag on myself, I know my stuff around electricity and I did him a good job if I say so myself. To have it contracted out, he got a price of 6000 dollars. I thought that was a pretty good trade for him. All he had to do was paint, I did all the body work and carried it to him ready to lay it on. Now he say's he's been busy. Wonder what he would have said when the 25000 sq ft building was dried in if I would have said "oh yea, I'm too busy, you'll have to wait 2-3 months? When I talked to him yesterday I got the same song, second verse, "next week".

Well, now I feel all better, as the Boop says, "I just need you to kiss it and make it feel all better"... shes a hoot. Man, I love my girls.... :D

Man, the phrase "Patience Grasshopper" always worked in KUNG FU. Maybe I didn't have the accent right! Maybe this will help: "You can pick your nose, but you can't pick your relatives!"

    Boops Dad,
Do you have any leverage? If he is holding you up and doesn't seem to be in a hurry perhaps there is something you can do. Let's see, you are affiliated with local law enforcement which means you probably know some of the firemen too. Perhaps the fire inspector? Maybe you know the guy that apporves the electrical work. Maybe on second thought something is not up to code so he will have to shut down till it is fixed? Once you start thinking along these devious lines you might think of something. He is not going to put you in front of "paying" customers until he feels some pain and usually that pain is best felt in the wallet.
By the way, can I get a confirmation from anyone on the 1 1/4" estimate?

    Hold Up

Well, while that is something to think about, there is just one other little kink in my rope. My other daughter, Katheryn, is his shop secretary... ooops!

I do have to go back and install all of the plugs, switches and lights when the painter is finished next week. And I have to admit that even though I am also a pastor, it did cross my mind to not follow up with those items until I have my Boops truck. BUT, I won't do that. My grandad taught me that integrity and character are more valuable than money and both are easily lost if one doesn't keep his word. Hence, I guess that's why I have lost some respect for them.

Good points all. It sounds like, if you are not willing to stoop to playing his game, you will just have to have the patience of Job. I can respect that. Good luck.

Until we master all aspects of rebuilding a vehicle, we are going to have to learn to compromise! The only man i knew who could do it all was my dad! Bless his heart, he knew how to do bodywork, welding, painting, upholstery, mechanical, you name it. He never settled for second best. He was a great teacher and i only wish he could be part of this forum.:(

    paint

Back when I was 20 I used to work in a paint and body shop and painted many vehicles. wow, was it that long ago. well anyway I used to paint but wanted the best for the Boop, just didn't know this would happen. When I get around to the next truck, I'm gona paint it myself. maybe by then I'll have a little better environment to paint in.

I guess it's not all as bad as I might make it sound but you know how it is when it's for your kids. And, I CAN'T WAIT to see the SMILE:D on her face.

Well, let's hope that the timing is such that you can wrap a big bow around it and give it to her completed at Christmas. That would be cool. A paint job for Christmas..and a daughter who would really appreciate it.

Both the bed rails on my '49 are too far bent up to give you an accurate measurement , sorry :(

I don't see anthing wrong in telling him ' I've done my part , now it's time for you to begine , I'll finish up the job as soon as you show the same good faith I have so far '...

Nothing wrong with that , shows character and integrity as well as giving this fool a little nudge...

    Thanks VWNATE,

I have never been one to get involved with chat sites like this, BUT, now I find myself checking to see what you fellows have to say AT LEAST 10 times or more a day. I guess that because of some of the people I work with (yep, some cops are bad pennies) I enjoy the type of people who can enjoy the finner, simpler things in life.

And, you are right, nothing wrong with a little encouragment on my part to get him off and going in the right direction...

I'm glad I found this site, I'm learning alot even if I don't post too much (kinda feel like a dummy) you fellows seem to know your stuff and even though I've been working on and restoring cars since I was 14, most of it is through trial and error and mostly on specific cars like 50s and 60 model trucks. I don't have the broad range of knowledge that most of you do.

    So thanks for the fellowship....

    Bill,
Since you're almost two pages into replies and still don't have an answer to your question, I went out to the barn and measured the holes on my original bedsides. Front and rear, they measured an inch and 5/16ths. Hope this helps,

Thanks, Bob. I don't mind the rabbit trails we follow. That is where we get to know one another.
    Thanks again,

    Kingsport

Tailgator, I lived in Tennessee until I was 9. then moved to Texas. I actually lived in memphis about a mile from Graceland. I met Precilla and the monkey once, man those things are nasty (the monkey that is). Anyway, how the weather forcast up there? It did get down to about 35 last night but it's mostly been in the 70s here.

I keep saying I'm gona drive back to Tenn somday and go back to where my moms 63 falcon rolled down the bank into the mississippi river. Memories!!

We used to take the train here to Texas to visit the grandparents. Memories!

anywho... It just caught my eye that you live in Tenn. I'm kinda slow to observe some things.

    Boops Dad,
Yeah, Kingsport is about 2 miles from Virginia. I have heard it said that, as a crow flies, it is closer from here to Canada than it is to Memphis. I can be in Virginia, Kentucky or North Carolina within about 30 minutes. I went to school in Nashville for a while but have not been west of Murfreesboro in the state of Tennessee.
