Hey I'm the new guy on the block. Just found this forum. Not much left on my truck stock(other than the body) but never know when you might need a hand with something so I joined for the information. Look forward to hearing from you guys and feel free to ask anything you like.

I have always had a soft spot for the old suburbans and panels. I think the panels look especially good with the kind of treatment you have given yours. You will find both mindsets on this forum as you might have already noticed. The good thing is that we respect the rodders as well as the original restorers.

48 chevy panel. I'm the third owner. I've spoken to the original owner (Southern Refridgeration in Louisville Ky 65+years in business) who informed me that the sign painted on the truck back in the day was painted by Cassius Clay Sr. Unfortunatley the previous owner hacked the truck up pretty bad when he subframed it. The only thing I reused that I bought with the truck was the body, subframe(which I would never use one of those again in this type of suspension), and transmission case. I put a completely new floor in the truck......not because it was rusted out but because it was cut up by the previous owner. New firewall for the same reason. 72 nova subframe, 2x4 box frame from firewall back. Firestone 2500lb bags in the front. Rear is a Triangulated 4 link with 2600lb bags. Gas tank is brand new from 80 blazer mounted in rear between frame rails. Rear end is 9 bolt Borg warner rear end from an Iroc(completely rebuilt) with disc brakes. Body was solid. Very little rust although i'd like to find a better drivers door...it had one descent size hole in it. I shaved the gas filler and that's about it for body mods. Engine is a 400 small block all completely brand new parts and it's stout. 400 turbo trans. Radiator is out of a 68 dodge Charger. measurements worked out well and with a few minor mods it fits well. 17x8 wheel vintique series 13 smoothies with 215/45/17 and 245/45/17's. 76 Grenada Master cylinder. Dolphin gauges, Lokar long shifter, 98 grand prix gtp seats in front, S-10 bench in rear. Have to install engine driven air compressor and re-upholster and she's ready to go. Haven't decided on paint yet. Every part under sheetmetal has been replaced or rebuilt. It should be like a badass brand new truck when I'm done.......I have driven it up and down the block. This thing is going to be fun.

That's cool! By the by, I'm hammered too! Just kidding! ...or AM I? That is a slick looking ride. Like so many that check this site- I wish mine was that far along. I bet it's tough driving that over a curb!
My luck with doodads- I swear I'll never airbag my truck 'cause I could just see me driving down the highway when I'd hear a big "whooosh"! Then this horrible scraping sound as the running boards sand themselves down on the pavement at 65 mph!
Or better yet, I go to a show, let it down like in your photo, and when the show's over, I flip the switch and nothing happens!
'Course now I have an idea to make SURE I become a Brazillionaire. Design/develop a "Razor" jack. It can slide under a truck that is 1/2" off the ground but yet lift a lard-butt old rig like we drive!

Do you plan on attending the Kentucky Nationals in August with your truck. I'll definately be there and would love to see it in person. I'm a street rodder myself and love to see tricked out trucks. There's a few of us street rodders on here so don't feel left out. Post more pics under the truck, inside the truck, motor, everything.

Do you know how many 60 Impala's are left and how many panals are left. I don't think they quite equal up here. The Impala will probably always be in the family, but if I ever change my mind, you'll be the first I call on. One of these days I'll talk you out of that panal.

You don't see very many of either, do you? I do know of one '60 Impala that is an original one owner, and if i can talk Frieda Ray into it, i'll drive it to Paducah in May and rub your nose in it! Her daddy ran the grocery store in Puryear and bought it new in '60 and drove it every day until he died in '99 and his daughter got it. She's probably sold it by now, but if she hasn't, i might try to take it off of her hands. How much do you think they are worth?

Hey Hammer, Sorry I'm late saying welcome, but when I come home from work I usually jump right in working on my daughters ride. You will see her mentioned often by me, she's the Boop... Loves Betty Boop anything. I have ended up with 6 of these AD rides and sure wish I had a panel. Before Ken talks you out of the Panel in trade for that old impala... could I intrest you in a fine 63 F**D Falcon 4 Door?

That panel would sure make a fine addition to my collection.

The Boops ride is a 63 3100, I'm in the process of putting it back together, it's a long story so I want go there now but you probably read some of the previous posts about waiting on the paint job.

Anywho,,, welcome, we love lots of pictures, details and ideas, so pour it on. Enjoy the group, they are great

Thanks for the welcome guys. I should be all over Ky. this summer. That's if it's not sold or traded off. Everything is for sale right? Someone asked about the air ride system. I made the front cups, the rear is a SuicideDoors.com Triangulated Four link, Firestone 2500's in the front, Contitech 2600's in the rear, Smc 3/8's valves, York Engine Driven compressor, All lines are Hardlined to the Valve then I have 250 psi Airbrake lines to the bags courtesy of my Oreilly store. Hope that answers the question. I'll have all my pics posted as soon as I clear a hardrive that was in my old computer. Or you can swing through Elizabethtown and see me at work. I have a complete album there.

I just ordered my triangulated four link from suicide doors myself. Should be here any day now. I bought the one from air ride technologies. E-town is not that far from me. I'm in Nashville, could be there in about two hours. In August I may stop in and look at the old truck when I'm on my way to Louisville for the car show.

Ken- Those Impala's are worth a ton of money and are even more expensive to fix up,hence the reason mine isn't done. I spent $1200.00 in just the rear quarters for my car. The parts are extremely hard to find and hardly nothing will swap over from 2dr, to 4dr, to convertible, to 2dr post. The only parts I know that will swap over from year to year is the 59-60 of course the same amount of doors and post or not. I have seen them go as high as $60-$70 K when they are fully restored. Average restored price is $30-$50K dollars. An orignal in good shape I would probably pay as much at $15k for it if I wanted it bad enough. Mine is all original setting in a field dieing and I paid $600.00 for it. The guy had no clue of what he had. But it needs a lot of work though. So if you can talk that lady out of it for a good price then you better snatch that car right up cause they're worth a fortune.
