Rear tire to fender clearance update

    Well, you guys gave me some good info and I have moved the axle back 2 inches. The perch on a 3800 is 5 inches long so the leaf spring pin is actually still inside the hollowed out part of the perch 2 inches in front of the original hole that it is suppose to be in. I haven't had the spacer with the new hole made yet so this is just put together to check for clearance. Below is a before and after closeup and a couple of feet back. I can't get a good shot from a distance cause it is in the garage. Also, the after pic does not have the full weight of the truck on it so there is to much clearance over the tire on the after pic.
    Does this look like the right clearance to you guys?

    Looks good from where I sit!

    I think once you get the full weight on it you'll be surprised how well it looks.

    I like it without the center cap too!

    Makes it look like a manly man truck! You know, the kind with three pedals!:D

    Here is the adaptor that I used to move the rear axle back. It turns out that, since the perches were hollowed out, I was able to move the axle 1 13/16 inches and that allowed the spring pin to stay in the perch. That gives me a warmer and fuzzier feeling about everything holding together well.

    The nipple you see in this picture fits in the hole on the perch where the spring pin did go and the hole you see is where the spring pin goes now.
    Like I said, the difference from center of nipple to center of hole is 1 13/16 inch and give the wheel and tire a good centered position in the wheel well.

    The metal extends an inch in front of and an inch behind the perch and is within the u-bolts.

    Gater,

    I know you have an open driveline. I was wondering if I can move the rear wheeels back using just such an adapter plate on my 1/2 ton with a closed driveline torque tube. Anybody know if there is enough room with the stock driveshaft and torque tube to do this or will the driveshaft come out of the yoke in the ball if it is moved back an inch or two?

    Torque Tube Setback

    Well ;

    Ya goptta figure that the rear yoke only fits into the Oakie Bushing 3" or so , so setting the rear end back 2" might just work but I'd worry about seriously accellerated wear .

    Why not mock it up and see how it looks to you ? .
