ive seen info that says interior for 1950 is champagne and ive seen info that says interior was Sheen Gray (Metallic) Poly mine looks like some kind of faded grey cant imagine it was ever champagne and the seat cover looks like it was maroon, was is possible that with a Mariner Blue exterior the interior was the Sheen gray with maroon seat color and maroon door panels as the inside windshield trim was maroon also dont know if originally that color or not but seat seems original and cab doesnt look like it was painted, I cant find any clarification on the interior color please advise Take care Ken
Yep ; That's it allright . When I were a laddie , they called the dash color grey but the vendors all call it Champagne . get a pint or two and have at it , you'll love the end results . I'd highly recommend first painting the _underside_ of the dash , ivory or off white , you'll be pleased when you need to do any underdash service later on .
What color is "champagne" anyway? I've done a lot of research on this, as have a lot of other folks, and I've come up with one conclusion. No one knows for sure. I've searched the archives on "Stovebolt", "VCCA" and "Chevy Talk" and everyone is in agreement that no one knows for sure. The interior has been described as anything from a semi-flat, semi metallic bronze to a slightly metallic grey-brown, etc etc. One thing that I have found though is that a lot of people liked "Chevy Duty's" aka "Classic Parts" version of the paint, a lot of people liked "Chevs of the 40's" paint, and one person hated Jim Carter's. I just ordered a quart of "Champagne" from CP, which came in within 2 days of my order (Kudos to our host), along with some other goodies. I'm looking forward to slathering it on!
Thanks Ken please post a photo when the paints on would like to see, I did find a man named Bob Adler in NY who has been restoring painting for many moons and he has original paint chips and PPG/Dupont paint mixes for our years, he said its a slate grey color for interior but once applied has a brown look now im really confused.I asked about the champagne he said that started in 54, hes sending me some paint chips Take care ,I bet you are excited to be getting your cab done, what color are you using on the exterior, im going to stick with the original Mariner Blue I think Ken
Yes the excitement is mounting I'm leaving Saturday morning to go visit my mother in Tennessee for 2 weeks (current location of my truck). Plan to work feverishly on the truck in between chores for mom. Kevin (Kevins48) and I are going to hook up on Sunday to meet each other and swap lies, check out each other's projects and eat 2 inch thick pork chops at Patti's. Best news for you guys? I will not have access to a computer (Mom just recently got rid of her rotary phone ), so you guys won't have to read my mindless dribble! BTW, bama, i'm going to paint the exterior Seacrest Green.
Rattle can satin black thats the colour for me, none of this rubbing down malarky (well just a bit) and it never gets hot enough over here to worry about hot interiors ________ Interracial pregnant
Thanks Bill! I'd never lend my BBQ brush out though- that's kinda like letting someone use your toothbrush. You DID give me an idea though... Poor, poor Chevy owners. You have to go and paint your dashes "Champagne". BooHoo... It's prolly 'cause of that PRETTY GRILL those trucks have. Me and my GMC get to use either "Champ~agne" or "Box Wine Red"! (Which looks alot like Chiefs Red, in the right light.) (or after enough glasses...) The instructions in the GMC manual start off with these words on dash repainting. "Grab a can that goes 'Rattle Rattle'."
Man Ken you're making my mouth water already with those pork chops. Just a couple of more days left. I'll be making up some lies to tell you in the meantime.
???? You guys are making it souns loke using Foo-Foo cans is a bad thing ?! I once bought a car with old flat paint and diligently polished and compounded and waxed that P.O.S. untill it had some shine to it , then I found out the DPO had painted it satin finish.... oops . Did someone say Pork chops ?
Oh Yeah! Kevin and I are going to have lunch in Grand Rivers, Kentucky at Patti's Settlement restaurant on Sunday. House specialty is a 2 inch thick pork chop that you can cut with a fork! yum yum
Ken: If you are a pork chop fan try Perry's just down the street from you @ Cypresswood & Cutten. Not cheap (Perry's is a fancy steak house), but after you eat as much as you want at the resturant, the leftovers are good for at least 2 meals for my wife & me. And you know I'm not a little guy .....
Two pig's Knuckles up on Perry's It is a great meal, but like you said-not cheap! Well worth it though, on that rare occassion where I need to do damage control on the home front
