This may be a little premature, but I wanted to be the first! Being steeped in military tradition, I want to do 2 things. First, i want to salute and remember all of the people who made this country great by sacrificing their lifes to make this country what it is today and secondly, teach the younger folks about the significance of the up coming weekend. "Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our Nation's service." Grand Order No. 11 dated May 5, 1868. There are a few of us on this forum who lived through the toughest times our great nation has faced and some who came here right after. The next time that you go work on your truck, or play with your kids, or just sit in the backyard and watch the birds eating out of your bird-feeder, think about the poor "dog faces" who gave their lives in order for you to do that! We, as a Nation, have endured many a hardship, but because of this tenacity, we have the right to do what we want to do. For all of the guys on this forum who have served our country, THANK YOU! For those who have not, thank someone who has!! In the immortal words of Forrest Gump "That's all I've got to say about that!"
You got it! Thanks Big Bro. My hat's off to all that gave all they had. 8 years in, and nothing but peace time. I guess I should have never got out. Maybe I had something going there... As a USAF man, I was SO proud to be in. I knew that, at any minute, I could be called to go. I accepted that. And I was damn proud to be "the man" that would be put out there to protect this. I never had to, as it turned out, but I was more than ready- thanks to my fellow buds and the training I got. Ask anyone who was in the 823rd CES, REDHORSE. For all of those who served / serve, God is with you. Because we will it.
Very well said Ken. Most people think of it as just another boating and bbq weekend. (No ideas Andy) But you brought it back into check with what you said, so definately a big thank you to all who served from me.
As everyone has already said, thank you goes to all those who have served in the past and are serving right now. Without all you do, this country would not be what it is today.
Hey c10~ I hear you. (your signature that is..) Read my posts, pm ANYONE, and they can tell you I've been all over the board on where I was going to take my wonderful metal fenders. Keep thinking of what you want and keep reading the great stuff on this site, and one day (soon) it'll hit you right 'tween the eyes. The great thing about this site is no one tells you what you should do, they just remind you it's your choice, and they are there for you. Sticking with the military thread~ "They got your back."
Damn Straight ! ALL here should never forget : your ability to live in the U.S. of A. is due to the hard work and sacrifices of all servicement ~ from the dufus on premanent latrine duty (" P.L.O. " !) to the Tullel Rats , ALL are heros . This is thier day , remember that ! . I hope all here have a fun and SAFE holiday weekend , watch out for those drunk drivers ! . BIG car show in Paso Robles , Ca. this weekend , up therabouts are also miles and miles of killer country roads , great for cruising in your old nail on...... No so good if you have Huck brakes tho'
Congrads to all the vets. My dad just came in he was a Career Soldier just gave him a hug and wished him a Happy Holiday. God Bless our troops overseas protecting our way of Life. Can you say Proud to be a American
Bit Of A Drive Niel..... It's just the back roads that're problematic for Huckies It has been a good day indeed , 07:00 (slept late) I went out to SWMBO's garage and fired up my trusty old truck , backed it out and took off for Los Alemitos (I dunno , in The O.C. somewheres) , nice drive down , oldies blaring out the windows and the 235 purring right along.... All the guys in the Metropolitan Nash club loved seeing my truck again , I said ' THANK YOU !! ' to all those Vets who make up most of the club , one guy brought his 1962 American Motors Mity Mite (!) I dunno where he founf it but it turned out to be a Colonel's vehicle in a U.S.M.C. training base in mid - California and was never de Militarized ( the Gov't thought Mity Mites were a failed project and cut most of them up for scrap) , salaved in the early 1970's to some collector , it has steel 6 digit license plates and is soon to be re-painted and the plates re-painted black~ it's hands down the _cleanest_ Mity Mite I've even seen outside of a museum... pretty cool . Anyway , had lunch with my son and then SWMBO had me pick up some new patio table & chairs @ Leow's , every one there liked the old truck too Now it appears I'm to drive her to the San Migeul Casino @ midnight to avoid traffic...
