It just take a lot of time and patience and don't get in to big of a hurry and make sure it's right. Yesterday I had the front end together and apart three times completely before I was satisfied with it. Maybe it's just because this is my first air bag job I've ever done. Today's work went kinda slow because of all the metal places were closed (I found that out after driving to several of them) so I went to home depot and found some metal that would work for boxing the frame. After getting home and making the box I start welding and wouldn't you know it I run out of wire for the welder. Back to the depot. Then I had two wrong fittings for the air lines. You guessed it another trip to the depot. Crap like that just made it pretty slow today. More work tommorrow though.
What? Kevin- you're doing all that but going with a carb?? That looks like a serious fireworks display! I REALLY love the smoooooth paint finish!
Yates, Nate is right (Duh, redundant statement)! From what i've been able to gather, the hood and grille are different too. Kevin, excellent work on the frame! I'm 3 weeks away from seeing it in person. Can't wait. Zig, carbs rule!
The good news about the hood being the wrong size is, from the looks of the hood in your photo, you would have needed a new one anyway. Gater
I'm using this project for a lot of first times for me. I don't know S@#t about carbs, so might as well learn. Also I've never done the airbag thing before so why not go with the most complicated one I could find, right? It looks overwhelming at first but when you take one wiring harness at a time it's not that bad. Hopefully in about an hour or so from now my frame will be doing it's own push ups out in the drive way. We'll see.
I'm not trying to steal this thread..... but since we were discussing frames I thought I'd let you know that I finally got mine to move on it own today. With the bags deflated the frame is 4 1/4 inches off the ground and 12 in off the ground when inflated. I was pretty excited to see it finally move. I only have one air leak and I'll rectify that some day this week. Any way here's a few pics.
Man Oh Man ! You guys are impressive in the amount and quality of work you all do ! keep it up . Oh and BTW Zig , those were different ' carbs ' they were talking about ! (betcha thought no one caught that eh ?)
If you find a better cab with a donor truck fine but, if not, this cab is the same size. The hunt begins... Gater
This site really saves a lot of $$$$ and heartache! I still think it would be cool if you proceeded with that front end.
I am still gonna use this cab but i want a chrome grille and front bumper and I don't think I can do it with the 1.5 ton front end.
So I fell in love today fellas! It all started when my friend called me to see if I wanted to haul my frame to town to trade it off for a malibu front clip. After checking the front clip it wont work by the way so i'm just going to get frame crushed. Anyways back to my story so he tells me that he has to go out of town to visit his niece who is in the hospital. He works for a company that makes air ride lift kits for fullsize trucks and gets to drive them after hours. He tells me to take the 08 Ford f250 diesel and pull the frame to his house so the crushing yard can come pick it up. I have ridin in several of their trucks before but never gotten a chance to drive one before. I seriously fell in love with a Ford which is something I never thought I would do. If only I could afford to buy the truck let alone the lift kit. So the story doesn't seem as good writing it as I thought it would but i'm telling it to you guys anyways .
OK Yates, we'll let it slide this time! Realizing that you're new and all, we let certain things slide! But you must remember that this is a family forum and sometimes, young impressionable people read this forum. While it's OK to say the "F" word when you're with your buddies, drinking a cold one, it really isn't correct to use it here. If you must use the "F" word on this forum, please use words like f*rd, or f@$^d, or something of that nature. Andy, I hope your daughter didn't read Yates' previous post.
Get a bar of soap and wash that young man's mouth out!!!! I was in construction 22 years and never, _NEVER_ talked foul like THAT!
Driving A F@rd Is Like..... ...Kissing a fat girl in the dark ~ it feels good for a minute but when the lights come up you'll be terribly embarrased Get Thee behind Me Satan !
I thought I would give you guys a little update. I finally got a donor S-10 its a 91 long bed that runs and is rusty as hell for $150 . I also got ding and rust free hood, rough front and rear fenders, a good set of running boards and the piece that the hood latch goes in to that fits over the radiator. So all in all its been a pretty good week.
