I have lost my parking brake release rod! No one that I know of makes repops. Figured I'd make my own. Problem is, I don't have all of the measurements. Can someone help me fill in the blanks.

I need to know the length from the handle to the bend and the length from the bend to the end of the rod. I also need to know the length of the spring (uncompressed) and whether or not there are any flat washers between the nuts and spring.

If measurements off of my 54 will help, I'd be happy to get them to you - but my set up is different.

    52 Break Rod

Ken, looks like I can't help on this one with a 52. I just checked and my break release rod is straight, exactly 18 inches long. No springs, just a hook into a bent flat bar.

    Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

Jim lives in Cleburne, Tx. He has a pretty extensive assortment of parts on EBay. If you need "Task Force" parts, he's your man. He also has some AD parts too. His cell # is (817) 648-3249.

Let me know where to send it. I can read a personal message but have never figured out how to reply to one. At one time I had 36 AD trucks for my parts supply that have now been picked so clean that nothing is left that doesn't have to be cut off. Won't part with any sheetmetal but surely several must have the release rod still there.

No wonder AD parts are hard to find!

You've been hoarding them for all these years!

I'll send you a PM shortly with my address.

Hmmm. My post didn't go through. I'll try again.
Ken, my truck is a 1950 3100. My 48-52 manual shows the release rod as straight. My truck has just that. It is 17.75 inches long, with 1/2 inch of threads at the end for the handle. At the bottom, it turns 90 degrees. This measures 1/2 inch. There is a built in shoulder at the turn, it goes through the pedal lock, and is held in place by a washer and cotter pin. Let me know if that does not make sense, and I can send pictures. Hope that helps some.......Mike

    I tried....

Ken, I was going to measure the rod in my truck yesterday, and mine has two bends in it, about 4" from either end. My manual shows a straight rod like Mike describes in the post above, with a 90 degree bend at the bottom. The manual also shows the piece that the rod hooks to at the lower end to be twisted 90 degrees, so the rod will go in. With the two bends in my rod, it just sorta flops around, so I may just straighten those bends and put one in the middle. If that doesn't work, then I'll straighten the rod, put a 90 degree bend on the end and twist the other piece 90 degrees, too. I know of an old truck in a junkyard that still has the rod, so if you don't come up with one, let me know and I'll go get it for you.
