Beautiful grill Ken, I want you to rechrome mine a few years back and painstakingly reassemble it too. Name your price. American Grafitti is on my list...soon, Bob
Thanks Guys! Thanks for the positive responses! I just added a couple more pics. Just hit the original link. You guys are the very reason my truck looks like it does. Your guidance, support and friendship have been the very reason that this project is where it is today! Thanks all! Ken
Bad Links I don't know why but noe of the links you've posted works ~ they're just plain text , not a hypertext format
I know I'ts already been said here but WOW!! Ken you have done a fatastic job on your dads pick up. No detail has been left undone, Very nice. Chris
I probably missed this awhile back or something, but what is that color? I love it! I was leaning towards VW Salsa Red, but this might be another option! Andy
Man Oh Man Looks absolutely fabulous. I'd be scared to have a truck that looked that good. For some reason, I thought the forum site was down for the last week. Every time I got onto the CP website, there was a message that the site was down for maintenance. I finally got tired of waiting and called them up. They don't lnow why it happend, but told me to click on the CP logo at the top left and there you guys were. I missed you and certainly missed a lot judging just by this one thread. Andy
Cape Maroon Hey Slugbug, how's the Impalas going? Still trying to save 'em all? I tried to get a color that matched the original "Cape Maroon" as closely as possible. The biggest problem I ran into was the fact that most of the maroons you find today are metallic. And there are 2 people on this forum that think putting metallic on an AD is sacrilegious, right Nate? We finally found a good paint chip and ran it through a computer "spectra something or other" and came up with a pretty good match. The pics really don't do the color justice though because the shop lights and the flash on the camera lighten it up.
Hmm, it's a very attractive color. I had the same problem...wanted a deep red/maroon but they are all metallic. Part of me wanted that for awhile, but not any more. The VW color isn't a bright red, but non-metallic. I was trying to stay away from reds like Corvette red, which I see so often. I was going to paint the interior the same color as the exterior, but boy, I sure like the contrast look with the original paint scheme. I'd better make my mind up quick...the paint booth isn't that far away for me... Impalas, oh yes still too into those for my own good. Recently moved to Salt Lake so until I figure out a storage situation I'm without any older vehicles...hopefully the summer brings a solution. I need to get my hands dirty soon! At least there is a drag strip real close...the ol' Impala will get to stretch its legs soon enough! Andy
Hey boys and girls! Say Happy Birthday to my baby! It donned on me today that my truck rolled off of the assembly line in March of 1950! It's about a month away from being done (nod nod wink wink). I added a couple more pics to my "Members Gallery". Nate, click on the original link and critique!
Steve, the color is called champagne and I bought it from our host, Classic Parts. It's hard to describe, but if I had to, I'd say that it is a semi-flat, semi-metallic bronze/gold. It's as close as I've ever seen to the original color for the interior. My paint guy said that it spread like butter and covered really well.
Tits! Big Bro~ You did a _great_ job of hiding your progress! Having that old truck hooked to the tow- the old truck in the barn- you in your blasting suit knocking off rust... sure, you said it was at the painters, but DAAAAAAAMN! You put that sucker together with kid gloves, and in a flash! I have NO idea how that won't roll more than "when the weather is above..." It looks more road worthy than the thing I drive daily, and when you have it all running, and you turn the key... It's going to stay parked? That's whack! You know you'll not only find yourself driving that, but setting behind the wheel as the moon is high in the night sky~ Your family is inside doing whatever~ and there you set. The key is in your hand. The night is clear and warm. In the distance, the neighbor's dogs bark across the blocks at one another. The street light glints off the key in your hand. It's all you can take. The key slides into the ignition. It clicks to the right. Your foot slides to the starter. The engine hardly grinds and it's come to life. Quiet power pours from it's new exhaust. Your hand reaches up and your fingers wrap loosely around the column shifter. In, and down. The only thing stopping you is your left foot that is standing on the clutch. It rises from the floorboard. You're off. Enjoy that truck, my friend. You did a great job with it. Totally tits!
Sorry guys~ It's been 3 months since I removed the steering wheel from my truck. Tonight, the moon is shining here. I went out an slid up onto that beautiful white seat of my truck, but without the wheel to hold onto, it's just not the same. I guess I have a lot of pent-up ...uhmm
