I am looking for a good air conditioning system with defrost for my 52 3100. I have seen several different A/C systems for my truck but I have no idea how each one performs. I live in south georgia where a good cold A/C system is important. In the past I have always used the 2-60 A/C units(2 windows- 60mph), but I would like to go a different route on this truck. I am planning on fabricating an underdash panel to house the controls and vents, so it wouldn't necessarily need to fit the stock contour of the dash. Also, I have replaced the 216 with a small block chevy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Matt

I know this is an old post, but I used the "Old Air" HIDDEN SYSTEM from Jim carter. It works well, and is almost invisible inside the cab. I have installed 3 of them and they are very straight foreward.

My favorite unit for the AD truck was made by Air-tique in Cleburne, Texas but I think they may no longer exist. It was absolutely out of sight and allowed the use of a full glove box. www.air-tique.com ph:817-641-6933. The Old Air units are from Old Air Products in Ft Worth, Texas and they offer decent support along with a good unit. www.oldairproducts.com Ph: 817-531-2665. Vintage Air in San Antonio is the priciest because they do the R&D for nearly the whole industry. After Chisenhall's people design a new system the others make knock offs or send one to Taiwan to have it repro'd there. www.vintageair.com ph:800-862-6658. Here is a Vintage Air unit in a 49 that uses the heater motor hole for the heat and air lines instead of the fancy billet aluminum bulkhead set up.
