Say is your truck an original K series or is the chassis from a different truck? The reason I ask is I am wondering if the K series had a boot over the transfer case shift lever and if yours is a K if it has a boot. Mine doesn't and doesn't look like it ever did. Just a cut in the floor mat.

Its an original 61 k 10 chassis. I had just a slit cut in the hump also for the transfer case shifter. I have seen other true 60-66 4x4's with the boot, but no one is reproducing them. The 68-69 had the rockwell transfer case also and I think the boots are being produced, so those might work. I'll check here on Classic Parts to see if they offer them. I think LMC Truck offers them, but I prefer to buy here if I can!! Jeremy.

Thanks for the info Jeremy. An original K series 61 must be fairly rare. Any idea of the production numbers? After I posted the boot question I went and looked in my 60-66 Factory Assembly manual and found the boot but I have not located one in LMC or here. As I remember with a friends 71 4x4 the transfer case (or at least the linkage) was much different from my 65. I remember because it took a gorilla to get it into and out of 4 wheel drive! Mine shifts like a dream compared to the 71 but has a much longer throw too what makes me wonder of the 70-72 boot would work.
On the transfer case subject, yesterday I changed out the rubber mounts as my transfer case had really bad slop back and forth. The rubber was very soft and disintegrating like rubber gets with oil on it. I put in the new mounts and they tightened everything up nicely. I was afraid of someday dropping that puppy on the ground at 40mph!

I don't have a clue on production #'s. I'm guessing they are low. Sounds like you got it back in good shape! I have a 700r4 and a np 208 tranny and transfercase in my truck now. With power steering and power brakes, its a dream to drive now!!
