I'm sorry to put 95 crap on an AD page, but I'm cornfused and it's time to turn to my friends for advice on what the hell could have caused this, and if it's an easy of fix as it appears to be? I have a Haynes Repair Manual for 1988 thru 1998, but it doesn't even show this setup. My Blazer is a 4 wheel on demand. Any ideas or help would be much appreciated. See~ tomorrow I was finally going to have quality time with my truck. And then this. If there weren't so many good things that have happened in my life, I'd be sooooooooooooooooooo pissed right now...
whoops~ Gee~ it might help if I show you what the problem is. (yes, I finally got batteries for my camera...) The first picture is the problem side, the second picture is how it should look. What other things might this "little" problem have screwed up?
I don't think, I KNOW. and I don't think you know either Zig. Ideas and help are hard for some of us to supply when you don't describe the problem.
Zig - If you hear and feel clicking and hopping as you turn, the CV joint is likely worn from dirt getting into it from the torn boots. They sell replacement "split" boots at your FLAPS, but eventually you'll likely want to install OEM boots and maybe replace the joint(s) if they are worn...Larry
Steering stabilizer bar Thanks Larry, I didn't want to notice that other problem... Sorry all, for not directing your attention to the "real" problem. Notice how the stabilizer bar mounts to the lower A-arm via the shocks bottom bracket. Look at both pictures and you'll see that the "pin"(?) [first picture] does not go through the top of the shock bracket. The pin/attachment in the second picture is how I believe it should be. I assume whatever went there fell out? As I say, I have no accurate description as to what went there, how you install it, but most importantly, the pin without the top part is slightly angled to where putting a new pin(?) back in will not line up. Did the stabilizer get hit and slightly bent? Do I unbolt the brackets that hold it to the frame so I can move it over just enough to get a new pin in? It almost seems like it is an internally threaded sleeve that comes up from the bottom and has a bolt that goes in from the top? Anyway, your help and expertise is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Andy! Now I have a technical term I use. A "stabilizer link"! Sounds better than a "pin". Common problem, eh? Hopefully it didn't screw anything else up. Hopefully it won't take to long to replace, so I can get going on my truck today!
SwayBar Bushing / Link This is a bit (O.K. , a LOT) newer than I work on but it's just a sheared off bushing / link thing , get a new one and a pinion prybar and replace it... Are the CV boots ripped ? I wasn't sure , it might just be low picture quality on my computer . I tried to read this message last night but the board was screwed up again and everything I clicked upon , went to " page cannt be displayed "
Got'er dun! It really was a piece of cake. But~ I wish I had a garage! If that was a bolt that ran through there originally, you'd have never guess by what came out of there. Thanks again for the correct terminology! Now it's time to finish taking the doors off, the seat back out, the rear shock towers off, the gear shift lever off, take out the back window, remove the hood and then roll my cab onto its backside! Wish me luck!
Mission (almost) accomplished! I got everything done to my truck except rolling it over. Our preacher is a mussel bound guy from Africa. He's going to grab a lower hinge on one side, and I'll get the other side and it'll be all over! It's nice to have a day like this. Glass - o - wine, please...
