Hi everyone long time no speak , hope everyones ok , hi again to brit 50 ;-)

im ready to buy a new trans for my truck now , i was thinking of a th350 but not sure where to go for it ?
i was thinking of monster transmissions as i have read some good comments or pheonix transmissions , has anyone had any dealings with these companies or can you recommend anyone else ,? i want a new box for the reliability i should get and due to the shipping costs i wont be able to return it easily for warrenty
some people say that local shops are the best given the close dealings you can get from them and due to recommendations , but big firms add some reassurance

also does anyone know anything about FASTCO Auto in niagara falls , ive ordered a 383 turn key from them after scouring the net for months and they seemed to be the best for value
    Thanks lads and lasses, ASH:):);)

    Well ;

Maybe a Rover shop ? I know they used the Buick V-8 , maybe they used the TH350 tranny too ?? if so , you could get it vastly cheaper and have warranty service as needed .

What other British cars might have used them ? like Rolls Royce used the TH400.... , I don't know if that'd work for you but it's a common enough tranny .

I don't trust automotive chain shops any further than I can throw my truck .

Cheers Nate , yeah i know the th400 was used in rollers but they soften out the shift so no tire chirping there :-(
    ill look into it ;-)
    Cheers again , :)

O.K. , yeah but , I *think* there are shift kits for them that'll tighten up the shifts....

If you could use a Chrysler A-272 tranny it's a simple thing to delete the accumulator springs and make it shift very firmly indeed...

I just tweaked the shifting in my old Mercedes Diesel Coupe and now , if I stamp on it away from a red light , it'll chirp the tires going into second gear...:D

There is a guy in Cowpens ,SC-Cooke's Racing Automatics. Everyone around here uses his stuff. I bought a 350 built with extra clutches, hardened sprag, racing bands and their own shift kit with rebuilt stock converter for $265. Drop off your core, and take his built one home. Can't beat it.

    why not add another gear...

Hey guys, I need to chime in here. Since you have NO tranny now, why not consider an overdrive tranny? A 700R4 (a little long), TH200-4R, or even a 4L60E (basically just an electronically controlled 700R4) would give you less RPM's going down the highway. Lockup converter too. The 200 stands up well with some slight internal work. Just a thought....................

Ash If you go the English way the Rover P6 V8s (Buick) used Borg Warner t 35 and later the t 65. SD1s used t 65 to start with then on to t 66.

    Black box

Mate, there are stand alone black boxes available for the trans, read about them recently, just a plug an play set up, all you need to add is a power cable to light it up and it does the rest! they can make the overdrive electronic boxes handle up to 1000 bhp so no probs there either! let me know if your serious and i will dig out the article for ya;)

Not sure how easy they are to come by in Europe but...

4L60E's are easy to come by at the junkyards here. Can buy a complete one for around 4-500. The electronic box to add isn't difficult to work with, but is added cost. There are some early 700R4 (same basic tranny without the electronics) that can be found. They need to have the updates from the later models...but after that they are very reliable.

Not sure the push to buy a brand new tranny. Most places sell rebuilt units and if its a reputable place they will be excellent. Thought I've seen rebuild 700R4 (non electronics) for around 800 or so from a few internet places. They add all the upgrades (GM upgrades) and are darn good.

The TH350, while a heck of a dependable box, is not for everyone. It doesn't get much simpler, but with the loads of OD boxes available why not? I went the route of a junkyard 4L60E...30k miles on it and I think it cost me around 400. I tend to trust a box that hasn't ben opened and rebuilt for the 4L60E, kinda like original GM stuff when possible. At least if something goes wrong I know what's inside. Obviously you don't have that luxury with an older tranny design.

Depending on your 383 that you purchased you may need to gear the transmission around that. Lumpy camshafts and OD can be a hassle to tune properly. Not much of a problem if you have deep gears in the rearend. Also lumpy camshafts and stock torque converts can pose challenges.

You could always stick a 5 speed Tremec in it and row the gears yourself too... :D

Does Summit Racing ship to you?

This is my transmission. I love it. In auto mode I can smoke the tires in 1st, spin them going into 2nd and chirp 3rd.

In manual mode (insert evil laugh here) LOL :D

Automatic Transmission, Forward Shift Pattern, Automatic/Manual Valve Body, Chevy, TH350, Each

Check to make sure this part fits your application A great value on a performance transmission.
These TCI StreetFighter transmissions are durable enough to withstand the rigors of even the toughest street machines. They are ideal for engines producing 450 hp with a non-supercharged system. Equipped with a manual/automatic valve body, most units allow you to manually shift the vehicle into each gear change or, by placing it in the drive position, remain fully automatic. In either mode, you get a race track shift that bangs through the gears and shaves time off of your ETs. When you use the manual gear selection feature, the StreetFighters upshift and downshift right when you move the lever, with no lag or governor override. When you select the normal drive position, they retain positive automatic shifts for the ease of driving you look for in an automatic transmission.

    (6) This part is shipped via truck freight, additional shipping charges will apply.
