    shop manual

    Dawg,

Get yourself a shop manual and a factory assembly manual. The shop manual can be purchased specific to your year truck. The assembly manual is called a '47-'54, but it's really a '54 assembly manual. No worries as much of the info is the same and they are invaluable tools to learn how these trucks are put together and how you can put them back together safely, easily and have fun doing it. Remember, these were farm trucks, meant to be worked and serviced by farmers, which means they run when other cars wouldn't and were meant to be serviced where they broke down, which was usually in a corn field somewhere. Any shade tree mechanic worth his salt can do it.

You're going to have a lot of fun. I know my kids and I did and still are. Nothing like getting a piece of old iron running and driving again to make you feel young.

There should be a casting number on the side of the engine near the distributor and one on the head on the other side of the engine IIRC. What are these number? Maybe we can figure out what it is.
