Well I searched the archives and there's a lot of info but not what I needed:mad: Does anyone know where I can get some of the original style plungers that go in the ends of the wheel cylinders? unfortunately they don't come with the new cylinders.:( Mine were rusted away from sitting in the junk yard sand for almost more years than I've been alive I bet:confused: I still can't figure out how sand got in side the wheel cylinders when the rubbere cups were still on the outside. Strange. Anyway - any help on this one would be appreciated.

    CP has em!

I guess it depends on the size? I ordered mine from CP and the kit came with them. 3/4 ton kit! Mine also looked like sand in them but it was just crytalized fluid. You know how FL is...sand in everything.;)

Well, I guess I should call them and see. Mine is a half ton and all the catalogs don't show them. Local FLAPS says they are a dealer item:(

I had no trouble finding any. I looked through Jim Carters, Classic Parts of America, and LMC truck. they all had old huck brake wheel cylinders. Just see what size of bore they are and you should be able to match them up. Or just purchase complete new assemblies. Best of luck

    Clarification

Wolf, et al... I guess I should have been a little clearer. I have a half ton with Bendix brakes and the new wheel cylinders won't come with the plungers as far as I know. All mine are rusted beyond use so I'm looking to find a source for just the plunger things!! I still have to call CP and see for sure but I bet it's a dealer item like the FLAPS said. Thanks for the response - every little bit helps..:)

Near me is a PROFESSIONAL brake shop. It's ALL they do. Big trucks (REALLY big trucks) to little cars, etc. I am sure that if you can find such a shop near you, they will have the part you need if you bring it by to match it up. Mine were pretty bad as well. I polished them up and it took most of the pitting out. They are working just fine with no leaks.

    Connecting links!

I may be able to find such a Brake Shop in the big city (Orlando) the next time I'm up that way. Thanks to all for all the tips on how to replace these connecting links as the repair manul refers to them. I still like plungers better!!!:D

Sorry I just saw the yr 49 on your signature and assumed you had ol huck brakes. I think I may have a link to help you out. Looks like you can buy the entire wheel cylinder.

Jim Carters has the entire cylinder.

Best of luck. At least you have bendix style brakes.. try to find new drums for a 52 3/4ton with huck brakes... not fun at all trust me;)

    C.P Huckies

I got my huckie cylinders from C.P and they came complete with all the bells and whistles, and a big ol tie strap holding the plungers on the cylinders and keeping the cylinders from poppin out. Dont know why yours came bare!

    Wheel Cylinder Plungers

Wolf, Brit...et al, Thanks for the links. I know several of the vendors have the cylinders for the Bendix brakes but they don't come with the plungers. I guess the Huck cylinders come complete. I seem to run into these little annoyances on each part of my project and end up spending more time trying to locate some miniscule part or fitting to make it all work right. this fourm is sure a life saver. I would have given up by now on this project if it wasn't for all the help I get here. I don't envy you folks with the hucks and older brake drum problems. That's why I changed up to bendix or at least I'm trying to!:D

HMmm that is really strange, the huck cylinders came complete like brit said. I wonder why the bendix ones dont.

one thing you could do is buy some huck rebuild kits with the same boar size, and see if they are the same boar size. i know the huck rebuild kits have some steel plungers in them.

    Plunging Ahead

I thnk I'll go with Chiro's recommendation and find a brake shop in the big city and that way I can eyeball the items and make sure I get what I need and maybe save some money. If all else fails I might try your suggestion.

I have the whole rear brake drum assemblies off of my 52 1/2 ton. I had just rebuilt the wheel cyclinders when I decided to change to a 5 lug rear end. I can take some photos and post. I live in Pineville, Ky not too far from tailgater. To be honest I was going to haul to scrap yard but if you want them you can have'em. You would have to pay the shipping.

    Still Plunging

Wow more good information..What would the forum be without all you good guys helping each other and ME :D of course. I think Chiro will own stock in my panel when I'm done. And Nate gets a logo on the side saying "NATE'S Mechanical Knowledge Services" With a moto - "If he don't know - you don't need to know" (or you can ask Brit50) ;)
Shankamoto thanks. I'll check it out. I can always use another source for ole Betsys busted booties...

Here is the pics of the parts I have. If you don't want all of it just tell me what parts you want and I will scrap the rest. I took pics of just one set but I have both sides.
