I'm looking for a GMC 302 straight 6. I have a couple of the 270's available locally, but I just gotta' have the 302. It must be complete and buildable.

    302 is a V6, not Inline

The GMC 302 is a V6, not Inline. I have a 302, but not sure what condition its in. I also have a 63 GMC that I will be willing to help out others with parts from.

The V6 is a 305, first introduced in 1960. The 302 is an inline 6, used in military vehicles and larger trucks (450 series and up) through 1959. Looks identical to 270 on the outside, just a bigger (4") bore in the 302.

Oh yeah, right, I guess I missed the whole last digit thing, and automatically thought it was the 305 in discussion, since I have that anchor on my mind as of late! BTW its free to anyone who will come and get it!

    bonvo,
The 270 can sometimes be opened to the 4" bore, sometimes it gets too thin. The 302 head flows better than the 270, although it is prone to cracking. My plan is to bore the 302 larger yet. I am hoping to build a land speed car for Bonneville with the motor. The class has a 325 cu in limit. It must be an inline motor. It had to be introduced by 1959, which rules out the later generation of Chevy 6s. Straight 8 Buicks are also popular for the class.

    truckman,
CA is a long way to ship one from IL, but it looks like I will have to do whatever it takes when I find one priced right. Thanks.
