Paint!
It wouldnt suprise me at all, years ago i knew an old chap who brush painted all his old trucks, he was a signwriter by trade, doing vans and trucks, but what was really amazing was he seemed like he had parkinsons disease and he always had the faint odour of whiskey on his breath. His hands would be all shakey right up to about an inch from the bodywork then bang, steady as a rock, never ever used masking tape, even when doing long thin pinlines down the side of vans! and his lines were arrow straight! he drew all lettering free-hand in chalk first then off he would go, the old Morris pick-up he drove looked like new and i thought he was tuggin my leg when he said it was brush painted, but someone else had him paint an old truck and watched him do it! and confirmed to me that he was for real, so using a roller is very possible.
