well I figured I would start and maintain a thread of my build..... been busy but I finally got caught up on the honey do's and was granted time in the garage stripped and primered the doors did the front of the cab gutted the inside pulled the running boards peek underneath and I need to get the steering wheel off will I have to rent a puller or does it just pull off Thanks
Excellent, another great piece of documentation! Where were you guys when I was putting mine together? You really need a puller to get the steering wheel off. I've got a question for you. What did you have on the outside of the cab in the center next to the windshield? Almost looks like someone mounted a spot light or something in the past. Or maybe an outside sun visor. Great job so far. Keep the pics coming!
Im guessing it was the sun viser.....there are little holes above the door rail that make me think it was a viser.....Thanks
Nice pics I bought a harmonic balancer puller at (I think it was) Harbor Freight for the steering wheel. I cost something like $10 I pulled my wheel at least 4 times to get the alignment right so renting one is not the way to go.

OEM Sun Visor mount I used to have a 54 AD that had the factory sun visor. It had a nice cast piece mounted in the center of the cab's forehead right where the hole is in Os's truck. I would LOVE to have it back. That was 1968, I haven't seen that old truck (The Lizard) around here in over 20 years, but last I saw, it still had the visor. Since you have come this far, go ahead and lift the cab and clean it up on the bottom while you are this close. You are there, and you won't regret it. Pull the column first. Jim
Yea Im going to pull the cab and coat the bottom in spray on truck bed liner. Im wanting to paint the truck like a silver or gun metal grey color on the outside.....Ive been painting my own cars for a while so Im going to tackle tha paint....also just got into airbrushing so I may do a 50's pinup plane nose art girl somewhere on the truck.... Im going to grab a puller from a local autoparts store that has free tool rental... Thanks for the advice Im on the look out for a visor and a front hood emblem Thanks
ok took adventage of some worm weather and pulled the cab and yea I couldnt get the steering wheel off without distrying the wheel soooo I left it on

hey can anyone tell me when the catalogs say left or right on a patch panel...does that mean facing the truck from the hood left or in the truck left.....

There Are...... NO ' stupid questions ' ! . If you buy a steering wheel puller , also known as a gear puller , you'll need two identical bolts with flat washers to use , back off the puller's screw and position it then insert the two bolts , the important thing is to have the same length where they touch the puller , it must be equal , then tighten the puller's center bolt a bit and if the steering wheel hasn't popped off (usually it doesn't) then you need to SMACK the center bolt hard with a 32 Oz. or larger hammer and the shock will pop it loose . I know it's all nasty & rusty inder the horn button but this works , I've done many over the years . Your work looks good , keep it up ! .
