I will be pulling my body shortly to clean up/paint my frame & install disk brakes (front), relocate the tank to below the bed and install lowering springs/spindles however I can't decide what to do... 1. sand blast the frame or wire wheel? 2. powder coat or primer & paint myself? I think ultimately I would sand blast & powdercoat but I don't think I can afford to do both on top of the brakes, suspension & gas tank (not to mention I need to re-wire my truck when put back together. So I'm considering at a minimum "painting" the frame myself to save some coin, however will I be disappointed down the road and wish I had of sandblasted & powdercoated? my truck is from texas and is pretty clean with no serious rust... a little surface rust and some minor oil build up on the frame but that is all.
I'd say spend the cash on media blasting and powdercoating. Bead blast, not sand blast, the sand will eat up the frame if there are any "soft" spots. Think of it this way, you won't be down to the frame again for another 30 to 40 years most likely. You'll regret not doing it right when you do have it torn apart. I just wire wheeled and painted mine last summer and I already regret not doing it right.
hello little star hi there your frame looks really good. like to know where you did get the fuel cell? let me know if you can . thanks johan
