About three years ago this 81 year old man brought his car to us to replace rusted areas (there were a lot), align and fit the panels, and then paint it after he had installed the drive train. When he picked it up we thought darn, there goes another that will end up covered with dust in a barn somewhere. Even his wife said he should get a turn key job so he could have a chance to drive and enjoy it. Boy, did he ever fool us. The floor boards he made, did the wiring which is not easily accessed by a young person, the door windows and regulators, the top mechanism, all the trim and accessories; in other words he built it. He is now around 83 years old and said some days he was worn out after just 4 or 5 hours!! Not an AD but an example of what we can get done if we will just have some dedication. I am going to get onto my 34 chevy master coupe that has been collecting dust for the last 35 years, Ive been shamed into it.
That is one sweet '40 DeLuxe. Tell me it has a 24 stud flathead V8!! Love the color, of course I'm partial to maroon!
ol fart kinda embarrised for any of us that says we dont have the time , or too stoved up, or just feel too old to work on our pet projects or toys ! what a nice job for someone of any age !!!!!!
That's way too cool! Old guys never cease to amaze me. My boss is 84 and is constantly travelling around, on one of his laptops (yes, he has 4) with his Blackberry to his ear, or sending/receiving emails on it. Too bad he's a Ferd guy...but he does have a 'Vette (and '60's Mustangs, beetle conv., Kevin Garnetts Mark VIII, etc)!!
Now I'm really impressed! Not many foks know that the original '32 Ford flathead V8 was a 21 stud vs. the late '30's early '40s when they went to 24! I love it when I see a genuine pale green, dual radiator hosed flathead in a pristene, unmodified perfect example of American ingenuity! Wait a minute! I'm on a Chevy forum! What a piece of crud those f*&D's were in the '30's and '40's. Evil spirits, bring Kens 50 PU back!
since ya mentioned a Master Coupe.....off topic I fell in love with what appears to be a mid-30's Master Deluxe in my semi-local old car junkyard. It's in sad shape but it got me wondering. What would be a good frame swap to update it with power steering and brakes or is it not worth the trouble. I need another project like I need a hole in the head but was wondering nonetheless. Josh
Probably an MII would work. Otherwise a S10 frame with Z'd rear. Sounds like a prime rat rod candidate....chop top, dropped into the weeds....rusty patina....
If you get that old Master Deluxe let me know. I am using the factory frame to hold everything in alignment while all the wood is replaced with metal tubing but am going to use a 2x4 box frame for the final assembly. The factory frame has a Heidt MII and a 4 link coilover rear which I was planning to transfer to the tube frame but could leave for the replacement cost only. Frame is gratis. Almost hate to show you a picture since the engine is a 4 cam 32V hemi F--d engine but if I see one more 350/350 set up I'm afraid nausea might overcome me.
1930's Vintage Brand "F's" If only I could get one with a 235 in it , I'd love to have a '35 Coupe..... Most years of ' that brand' cars between 1934 ~ 1938 have stunning styling . I just cannot abide who they're made by
Thanks , Evan but....... My wife put another kink in my plans. My pipe dream was to this old Master deluxe on something modern so my families grocery getter would at least look good. Unfortunately my wife could care less and would prefer her Korean tin can. So, thanks for the offer but I probably won't take you upon it. Hope to see pictures when you're done. Josh
