Hello -- I am heading to central Nebr. the May 18 date, and then south to Kans., Okla., and to son in Texas. Got to bring back a '68 IH Scout from TX. as son has to transfer in the Army overseas and grampa's Scout has to be taken back home til a later day. It only has 65,000 miles and really nice shape. Got it in 1976.
So, you all might tell me where some cherry junk yards are to be had showing some worth while A D pickups ? :D
I know .....they are mostly all gone now, huh ?
Be fun to see the country side, hope no tornados too close

Any outstanding places to eat along the way ? Something a lot of folks do not know, but anyone can really reccommend ? Like a diner somewhere, with local beef....ya know, where's the beef ?

    :D

I am told The heart Attack Cafe in.... ?Chandler? Az. is pretty good , I plan to drive there this year just to check it out .

Remember to check the body corners of the Scout right away ad they hold dust that turns into mud and rusts them out , especially near the fuel tank .

It is now in Chandler, that place has moved all over the valley the last few years but it is currently in Chandler and will hopefully stay, now that it's only a couple miles from me.

May be a bit of a drive from where you are headed in Texas but could potentially be worth it.

I don't know where in Texas you will be heading but chances are it would be San Antonio. If that is right you will be probably driving down I-35 out of dallas through Waco, Temple, Austin, then SA. Just north of Waco about 3 miles on the right side of the road going south is a yard full of old vehicles including a few ADs. Then just as you leave Temple (still n I-35) on the left is another lot with stuff of intrest. Good luck and thank your son for his service to all of us.

Of course if you're headed to Ft. Bragg in El Paso you're on your own.

The Deli in Coppell, Texas has the best hamburgers around, then there is that Mexican food thing here in Texas....

    Of course ......

Yes, will probably be coming thru I-35 some of the way, will be driving our Dodge Ram 2500  and hope to see the plains area I grew up in Nebr. and Kans. area, and Okla. where my Mom grew up. Once we hit Tex., we always like to go to Smokey Mo's near Austin I think it is ?
Actually, we are going to Killeen.
There are lots of good eats all over the country, I am just excited to be going and seeing the USA in our Dodge today !!
    :D
I sure can't believe how the prices of good old trucks have changed from my "buying them for 100 and 200 bucks"
Geeezz......I have had so many...I hope to take camera for pictures. Maybe I can post some interesting ones later, hope I can find this site at sons computer, as I have it saved on work computer to check occassionally.
Thank you guys for your input, hope the heat and humidity don't bother me too much...kind of a long trip back 1200 or so miles with a trailer/rig to pull back. Going to go back thru Denver way to see other relatives.
I also am a Ford Festiva subcompact lover, will look for them too...made from 1988 thru 1993. Not quite as good as 4 wheel drive truck, but Mom thinks she has to get to work at post office, not matter the rain, the mud, the sleet, and . ....did I mention snow ?? :D

Gas here is at 2.17 a gal. Our Dodge ain't gonna drive like a Festiva quite !
Later then, maybe I can take a few quality pics for here later .....son hopes to take me to Ft. Hood to see some Humvees, etc. He works on all kinds of engine running stuff, amazing ! Sure is smarter than his old dad ! HA !

Thanks you guys for input, much appreciated,

    Road trip!!!

That sounds like a great idea! Take off and hit the road! It has been sooooooo long since we've done that. I know EXACTLY where I want to go! Straight South to see my big brother and friends in Texas, then on to the gulf so my daughter can learn how to body surf!
Enjoy your trip! If you were coming through here, there are a few mom and pop joints that serve just what you're looking for!
    Look forward to your pictures!
