well I took off my door latches and they are completely worn out. Metal is missing and I think I need to replace them. Anyone out there know how the reproduction latches are? I heard that the quality was junk and they don't work very well....What do I do?

    Door latches

    WARNING ! .

I went through several Chinese re-pop ones that did not work before I gave up and bought N.O.S. ones from Mother Trucker in Az.

I have heard some of the re-pop ones worrk fine so find out WHETRE anyone who is using the good ones , bought them as The Truck Shop in Orange , Ca. , sells CRAP ones .

Even if you have seat belts , your LIFE depends on the door staying closed ! .

Mine popped open in a left turn and everything in the cab except me , flew out into the street !

Damn good thing SWMBO wasn't riding in it that day .

I had a simular experience with a '49 that I owned. I had two of my children with me at the time. I made a left turn and the passenger door flew open with my then 5year old son hanging on to it for dear life!!! I'm playing around with some off an S10 right now. Will let you know how it turns out.

    Be Aware

That I buy lotsa stuff from The Truck Shop but they hire only young kids who work cheap and think only new chrome and (yawn) SBC engines are any good ....

They simply DON'T CARE if they sell you the wrong part or a defective one

I tried talking to the manager , he's maybe 35 and knows nothing nor cares either .

Someone spent a lot of hard work and time setting the place up but the help simply sux .

    Nate,
I have almost given up going down there and getting parts. I have put out $100's in parts just to take them off and put back the old parts. Go down there and say something, they could care less about giving the wrong part.
But once in a while they have good used parts over on the wall, spendy tho.

    Here's the deal on repops!

Classic Parts, Jim Carter, LMC, The Truck Shop, Chevs of the 40's, etc all buy their parts from a handful of vendors and they are "hit or miss" as far as quality. The key is finding one of these places that have quality tech and customer support. IMHO, our host is #1 in that respect, followed by Jim Carter. I've had to send a few parts back to both Classic Parts and Jim Carter and they have been very supportive and backed their products.

Good luck on the hinges. Hope it works out for you!

    Ken
