I just want to put it out there I'm not a huge fan of this program. 1. What about those people that already bought fuel efficient vehicles. 2. It is going to drive up the prices of used cars and make it harder to find a good used truck/suv. 3. These motors,cpu's and transmissions would make a cleaner more fuel efficient classic/hot rod. 4. Prices for parts at the junk yard are going up. If we must destroy these vehicles couldn't we do it in a fashion that would allow use to use the mechanicl parts? How about cutting the vehicle in half. You couldn't drive it or sell it again and all the parts are there for the taking. I guess the only good thing to come out of this is when/if I ever sell my 1999 Tahoe, I can call it a rare survivor.
In California the ACCC has fought this program for years ! For very similar reasons that you stated. I kind of see this as a new way for people to get into finincial difficulity and get upside down on their CAR loan.. Studies have also documented that this will do little to help overall oil dependency because people will drive MORE in a car that is more fuel efficient. Let's face it though, we really do need to do something about our dependency on oil and where this country's money is flowing. I just think that this way is more about stimulating the economy more than reducing our dependency on oil.. Oh yea, the cars that are being bought under this program? The vast majority are forigin made.. How does that help THIS country ? dv
Weve talked about this in the past, I didnt like it then and i dont like it now, for the same reasons you guys have already mentioned, governments way of getting rid of "could be hot rods" and another way for the irresonsible to go backrupt, again. speaking of becoming less dependent on oil, did you guys watch the episode of "jesse james must die" were he broke a speed record with his hydrogen car?
Man I wish I could have seen that episode. I'm currently deployed and we get to watch current shows like Friends and Seinfeld.
