Back to germany with a lot of memories. I found on my way a lot of old cars and trucks and explore a nice junk yard. Wow very big but nothing to find parts or trucks from the 40's. Hmmm, enclosed a pic from a nice Chevy which i found on the street. Very interesting but i don't found the owner to ask the price I'm sure i will go to Arizona next year. In NY the trucks are very rusty and not in good condition but the area from NY to Maine are so great. It's a shame that i can't meet Chiro but i think he have a lot of work with the truck. Volker
You'll LOVE Arizona!!! Just wait until you get out THERE! You might just end up deciding to come to the US for good! (If you do, bring "brit" with you~ We promised to fatten him up on greasy American food!) I like picture 2 the best! ...I'm just not able to see what that plant is that's in front of the door... ~surely not!
@Zig: It's an idea for long time to come to the US forever. I love it but i have a small problem. I have to go to work to get money to spend money for parts If i retired and have a lot of money in my pocket i will try this. But till this time i should go for vacation and looking for the best place to live. 3 weeks are enough with the greased food. OK OK i found a lot of restaurants with good food but only eat without sport makes a fat belly. Volker
Grease is the word! I hear growing older has something to do with the fat belly, also! I'm just happy for you, Volker. I would LOVE to head across the pond for a vacation! Heck, it's been since 2002 that I've even HAD a vacation! Maybe this coming summer~
Home Again Volker , I am glad you enjoyed your visit . Mayhap you'll make it West next time , in Arizona (" HOTazona " ) there is a valley that's _LOADED_ with scrap yards including a few that specialise in older vehicles , rather expen$ive tho' . Those pix you posted were nice , when I were a laddie in New England in the early 1960's , all the outlayng junkyards were just like this , chock full of wonderful old vehicles that no one had ever made any attempt to rust proof from new so they were ruined in spite of running well and low milage . Be well and work carefully . Beer and sausages will fatten one up if you're not careful Living in America can be very cheap *if* you look at the various state's taxes before moving here .
The saying is to buy a body from out west, where the running gear is worn slap out, Running gear from up north, where the bodies are rusted out, put 'em together and drive 'em down south where you can enjoy them all year round.
Volker, If you want to visit Arizona from deutschland, consider a vacation in March or April, the summer vacation temp is 40 grad Celsius! A nice loop would be the 2-3 major areas in Arizona, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, A little bit of Utah and back through some of the Indian Reservations in Arizona. With some planning you could get some route 66 memorobelia, Indian crafts, loose lots of Euros in Vegas, take lots of pictures! Of course, they have teddy's at the Hard rock in Phoenix and Vegas Its a fun and sometimes desolate trip, but eine schones erlebnis! Flashlight
Hey Flashlight, i follow the route you described 3 years ago. You are right, it's very nice and the Grand Canyon / Monumet Valley was the best. I don't know what's my next destination. I think about next year and i will go March/April or Sept/Oct. Do you think on my teddy from Hard Rock Cafe??? now i have 16 teddies in my living room I remember on my trip to Nashville. This is an area who can i live forever.
