5.th wheel bracket between cab and rear fender

I like it the way GM made this technicall solution fore the 54-55 trucks, i mean the 5.th wheel position between the cab and the rear fender. The tire and the rim dont get so easely dirty and rusty as when it is placed under the bed .
its easerly to cover the tire to if you want that.

But is it possable to buy the bracket and the mounts new , if not does some off you guys have a some good pictures off an original bracket/mounts and the way its mounted to the sidewall ?

Thats great Volker. How is your 235 CI engine remanufactering going on? Did you found out about wich transmission you could use?

Finish next week. bored with new pistons, head planned, new valves and and and. a new engine!
I plan in Januar the operation :D with power brakes and power steering. If i have all ready i have a new truck:D

Volker can you tell me about the power brakes projekt. I would like to know how excactly your going to make the changes and what technicall solutions you have choosen?

i will use the Part #: PA1502KPO from MPbrakes.com and mount it under the floor, near the original position of my old master cylinder. use new brake lines (cut to length and bent it) and ready.
If i have the part here i can give you the measurement of the rod between my original pedal assy and the booster. i think i have to weld it on the original pedal assy.
I will order the booster plus the master cylinder because Steve from MPBrakes wrote me the pedal assy don't fit with the manual tranny.
OK, give report if i have the part here.

I go tomorrow to my garage and send you the measurements from the bracket.

the measurements:

big plate: 150 mm x 245 mm
length of u-shaped part: 250 mm(long side of u-shaped:75mm, small side:35mm)
small plate: 50 mm x 180 mm

What you're looking for is called a " Side Mount " spare and you'll find Jim Carter's sells reproduction brackets and you'll have to carefully measure then cut the face of the fender , flip the cut piece and weld it back in , I *think* Carter's gives you the template for this when you purchase the bracket .
 
Nate,I called Jim Carter Truck parts and they don`t carry the side mount spare bracket.....Know of anybody else that might have it??...I`ve got pics and dimensions to build one,but that that sounds like work!...Thanks!

I was sure it was him , maybe try Chevs Of The 40s in Washington State ? .

I don't buy much from the vintage parts sellers , I scrounge the desert & swap meets .

I do know I saw this a while back and was pleased to see it in production .
