is there a hub out there that will fit a 60-62 chevy truck that is 5 hole instead of 6 hole?? I want to install different wheels that are 5 hole and keep my drums brakes for now and dont have the money right now to buy a conversion kit. Any ideas would be appreciated.
I don't know of anything that is a direct replacement however you can do what I did and maybe even make some extra money when you're done. I converted to disk brakes and did it with out buying any expensive kits. My truck is a 61 with torsion bar suspension and this is what I did.....I found a mid 70's Chevy half ton truck complete that was no longer on the road. I striped the truck of everything and started putting the parts on my 61. First I took the disk brakes. I figured out that if I took a 7/16" to 1" tapered reamer I could ream out the bottom hole of the late model spindle and it would except the stock lower ball joint of the 61 then I was able to swap upper a arms. The late model upper arms are better cause they have rubber bushings which gives a better ride. I then took the power booster proportioning valve and all brake lines off the late model truck and used them on the 61. Now that I had power disk brakes it wasn't any problem to adapt the late model power steering to the 61 in fact when I had it aligned the tow in was within 1/4 of an inch. In the end I used the motor mounts, sway bar, Trans. cross member, rearend, engine and Trans. and all the hard to find hardware. I sold all my left over parts and the old parts that I pulled off the 61 and made money in the end. The cost of the 74 Chevy doner was 400.00. The money I saved was in the 1000.00's when you think of all the kits I would have had to buy. So if you have an imagination and some fabrication experience you can do what I did and have a nice ride. This truck started out as a quest to see how cheep I could build it and to make sure that I didn't use any kits at all. Everything on this truck was hand made or modified to fit by me in my garage and the truck was built and all paint work so far was done in the drive way. Anythings possible. Here's some pix of what I ended up with so far. Good luck ....Big Tim
