I just thought I would ask you guys what color I should paint my truck. I can't decide between red or black, I like both alot.

    Thanks Jesse

    Tough decision!

Now, think about this. Chevy offered 12 different colors in '49. Standard color was Forester Green. Optional colors are as follows: Swift's Red, Armour Yellow, White, Jet Black, Omaha Orange, Cape Maroon (my fav:cool:), Mariner Blue, Windsor Blue, Seacrest Green, Sun Beige, and Cream Medium. Don't rule any of the above out!

Black is probably the classiest color for old vintage tin, but it does have its draw backs. Black will show every imperfection in your body work, it will always look dirty and will show every scratch in your paint finish. However, with your deluxe cab, the bling will look awesome.

Did I mention how much I like Cape Maroon?:D

Black is absolutely beautiful when clean, which lasts all of about 3.24 seconds. If body work is questionable, black is a bad choice, as it shows everything.

    ! Duh !

Swifts Red with black fenders of course

BTW : Alaska Yellow was also a 1949 color , my '49 was that when new .

I've seen an AD in Alaska/Yukon Yellow with (of all things) brown fenders ~ I know that sounds awful but it looks really nice .

My '50 Jimmy was Yukon Yellow. It'll be yellow again, with white upper. As for your choices, I lean toward Red, but the black fenders and running boards is a real good idea. D 52 Chevy frame work (39).jpg

    Such a beauty!

That works for me! Nice wheels and tires, too. Smaller wheels in front than in back?

    I ALWAYS vote

I voted for the black, but it will ultimately be up to you. Taking into consideration what the others have said above about showing flaws and dirt - if you are looking for that true classic look, then go black. However, if you are looking for a fun little red pick-em-up truck, then go red. Personally, I think you see red too much - it is over used and expected. If it had been a choice, I would have agreed with others above and gone with the maroon (for the red) and black fenders, running boards, etc. Good luck. It took me FOREVER to pick out a color and I had it narrowed down to 20!!!!! You'll do fine and I think you will enjoy whichever way you go.

Metal flake candy orange top and metal flake candy red bottom (large flake) with mega coats of hardened clear over it all an supercharged inline six with
gloss black for the frame and gismos.
