i have a 52 chevy 3800 1 ton split window pickup. I was cleaning a gentleman's property up for him. this truck was part of he cleanup and i thought someone could use it instead of taking it to he wrecker. I dont have any paperwork for he truck, so you can either use it for parts, or do the work to get the paperwork for it. the truck has he original inline 6 that isn't seized, i turned it over by hand to check. it also has a wood 9ft bed. truck is located near Ukiah, ca and im asking $200 for it. come get this classic.
That will look good in the other truck not the 52. But first I have to figure out how to tell that I have another truck and we have to go almost to Or. to get it. Well maybe I'll plan a trip to see the Grand Children in Reno and well some how I'll get the F250 in the talk about going to Reno and the equipment trailer needs to tag along with the F250 and it is going to visit a green/red/yellow dented somewhat 52 one ton, that may end being hers, . First I had better show the the picture of the truck and get some reaction on what she thinks of it, it looking like the other one, or do you think the Chevy would look okay this color Green?
new ride Hey Charles you can tell the wife that with a new coat of paint it will look as good as new. and you don't need any parts for now wink wink. Good luck on the soon to be new toy. Robert
We will see, I never try and out think her. Green is her favorite color so I have a shot there. It is like the Green Farmall H she calls that Hers, Her tractor and I need to keep it in running order. As far as this green 52, will see once it is in my control, until then it just a set of fotos, I like. The mileage to get is is about 500 one way to here then it has to go into Az's outback till I find room for it.
trip up north 4 a 200$ truck is in the works, no ticked off comments yet. Does not mean they are not coming just means the delay is good for now. We were looking at the ads in the White/green sheet over the weekend and noticed 10 ac parcel off interstate 10 for 7 grand. Later that day I made comment about having a little internet bill I got into and then said nothing more until this morning on the way back from Az. On the way back I let it be known the bill had been paid but instead of picking up the iten in Yuciapa it is up by Ukiah, Ca. Well at least you are not going to have to drive to Rapid City, SD this time, she states. The place I picked up the 48 at and it barely ran.
Just got back from picking up the 52 1 ton, it has a few usible parts that I will get another time, in the mornoing after some sleep I will take it to the desert to dryout before taking anything off it. May take the gun rack with us first. It has some really serious issues with rust and dents.
update one; 52 is in Arizona and it was not stopped and arrested and mandated to return to California. Good thing it needs to dry out and kill the moss. I had driven the '48 and left it there when I picked up my trailer and the 93 F250, after getting the 52 there, we got on the road with the 48 and it started missing and choking for gas, at the first stop sign before heading for interstate ten. Finally got to Quartzsite gassed up and it started once and then quit. For over an hour puring gas into the carb it would not stay running. Had to have it piggybacked to the property and drive the F250 home. I acted like the fuel pump was not putting out enough gas or that it was vapor locking. It has never done this, but has acted up over the last weeks and me thinking it was the gas filters and or that pressure thingy I put on. Today I took both off and still nothing until just before the toe truck got there, it just started right up. After it got to the property It started again only to start that sputter and acting like it was not getting enough gas again. So I want to have a electrical fuel pump as a stand by hooked and ready to go at the turn of a valve, right now it has the double function fuel pump and I think a unvented gas cap., and I may need to replace the double action fuel pump. So any ideas on what could be the issue on the 48?
check out my thread on this site and the Big GMC truck site. https://talk.classicparts.com/showthread.php?t=10753&page=5 http://oldgmctrucks.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/294006236/m/482104953/p/3 Basically it was the "filter" nut on the top of the carb, doesn't look like any filter that i have ever seen. I have the zeinth carb! maybe your problem
On my tractors I have those screen fittings in the carbs, but not on the carter one barrel. It appears to be heat soak and or vapor lock on the system. Why after two years of summer driving it starts that crap. So I will look around for some fins I can wrap around the steel gas line between the tank and the fuel pump line going to the carb and install an alt. system via electrical fuel pump along with some clothes pins if I can find them (myth I think) , some of the older than me flat head guys swear by them as did one of my Grand Fathers. Meanwhile the truck is sitting in Az. where I can not work on it.
Vapor Lock Charls ; Good deal on this truck ! . FWIW , clothes pins work really well on vapor lock , no B.S. . once in a blue moon you'll find some aluminum ones, they work best , what they do is dissapate the heat . Wrapping the fuel lines makes things worse . An electric fuel pump is wise , be sure to mount it down low on the frame rail before the mechanical pump so I'll always self prime . Be sure to get the correct pump rated for 2 ~ 3 # , it's always out of stock @ O-Reilly's , Kragen , Shucks but order it up and you'll be happy . the adjustable fuel pressure regulator thing is crap and a joke .
Thanks Nate, That heat soak and vapor lock is a pain in the ass, I'm going to drive the truck back during the night with the other half following in her Explorer with the air conditioner this way I can at least wait in a cooled vehicle while the truck’s fuel pump or carbby cools down. Am looking for the clothes pins have not seen any metal ones in some years, will go looking for the elect. Fuel pump tomorrow and get the other stuff ready do it can be installed once I get the truck back here.
Vapor Lock I hear you Charles , my old '46 3100 taught me much about the need for proper tuning anf cooling system maintenance . Timing and regular valve adjustments have much to do with this . Both can go out of spec. faster than you think .
Nate, I've found four aluminum clothespins on Fleebay and they are on their way, I have yet to get the fuel pump been to busy lately, went out Friday to go to home depot and the truck would not start. So I spent the day taking off things, blowing the lines with air and putting back. Took about a pint of primming the carb before the truck would start, and only after I added 2 1/2 gallons of gas first. Someone had hosed out little over a 1/4 tank. So I'm also going to look for those spring things to slide down the neck. Thanks for the help,
Make shure that your heat riser flap on the exhaust is working properly. Mine in the 53 was stuck open, and I had the same problem, it was heating the intake all the time and didn't like it.
