    Hi,

I'm new to your forum and have spent hours reviewing posts and urls. I am working stiff who enjoys old trucks and have a couple 54 five windows, one of which is 54 gmc coe, picture below.

I have spent the last two years collecting parts for my 54 gmc inline 6, 1/2 ton pickup project and in that time I have not been able to locate a outside sun-visor (Fulton/Dietrich/Comet/OEM) and I'm hoping someone on this forum might be able to help.

    Questions:
    1) Will a 1954 chev sedan sun-visor fit 54 chev/gmc pickup? (I have read yes & no answers)
    2) Can a 54 chev sedan sun-visor be modified to fit 54 chev/gmc pickup, correctly?
    3) Is there anyone that makes a custom metal with stainless trim 54 pickup sunvisors?
    4) If no to the above questions, could you point me in the right direction of someone that might have an original sun-visor for my 54 GMC, for sale?

    Much Respect, Ken

    Welcome ken !

..Even if you *do* have a Jimmy :p (just funnin' ya) .

I was also told the '54 Sedan visor fits but wait for Evan to chime in , he'll know for sure .

There are lots and lots of older threads on sunvisors and I'm betting this has been answered if you take some time reading older posts .

We need pictures of the stock pickup project .

The original GM '53/'54 Chevy car & the '54/'55 Chevy truck sunvisors were identical ... EXCEPT the end mounting brackets were different between the car & the truck.
The car end brackets will not fit the contour of the truck properly.

The first picture shows the car end brackets .
The second picture shows the truck brackets.
Third picture is the factory diagram.
4th & 5th pictures shows the factory visor mounted on my '54 COE

I have 2 original GM Chevy factory 54/55 truck visors avail.

The original factory GMC truck visor is nearly impossible to find even for the earlier split window trucks....
I have never seen an original GMC one for a single windshield 54/55 GMC.

Here is the last factory one I saw for a GMC.

I have an inventory of over 50 sunvisors.
The Dieterich sunvisors were popular on many vehicles & would look great on your truck...
They had a superior steel design compared to the aluminum Fulton visors & the Dieterich looks nice with the stainless trim across the entire leading edge & we can ad the correct roof center mount to fit your one piece windshield truck.

    PM me for more info.

We also have a large selection of original Fulton sunvisors.
You would need the one that has the roof center mount to fit your one piece windshield truck.

Wow, thank you so much for the information!!! I have spent a ton of time searching out information and found very little, I definitely was looking in the wrong place.

I found a Comet sunvisor on fleabay the embossing on the aluminum is kind of interesting, reminds me of the old aluminum portable/camping ice chests.

I currently have my 54 GMC/COE torn apart. I was a concrete truck driver/teamster for 20yrs, I quit and went back to school. I am a network engineer now for almost 17yrs so please keep my name and email address z32tt90ATyahoo.com and give me a shout if you have any network/computing issues, I would be glad to help you both. Ken

    Nice !

    COE there ! .

Do you sell Fulton parts ? I have parts of a Fulton Sun Shade I'd like to put on my '49 3100 .

Repos would be fine as long as they'll work and not fly off on the freeway...

The Repop Fulton visors are cheesy copies & they cost more than an original restored Fulton.

Here are a few links regarding them....

    Dieterich sunvisors

    Mother Trucker,

Your posting regarding Dieterich sunvisors, the first pic shows the stainless trim across the entire leading edge, and the center piece is wide and not stainless.

Did Dieterich visors also have a stainless center piece about the width of the leading edge piece.

Your 4th pic in your Dieterich post, the 2nd visor to the right of the one marked sold, looks like my stainless center piece. Is that a Dieterich, or do I have something else.

Also, do you have the longer center mount from windshield to visor. I have the other short one.

    Thanx But

You sidestepped my question ~ I know I can buy the paper thin repop Sun Shades , that wasn't my question . what I asked was : do you sell PARTS ? I have the Fulton but not the brackets , clamps and center supports .

    That visor hanging up is a "KP" visor { different than the Dieterich }

I have one of these KP visors installed on my '51.

Dieterich did make a visor with a center stainless strip up the middle but that one did not have any stainless across the leading edge.{Those are 2 piece non-adjustable visors}.

We have reproduced new Dieterich visor stainless end brackets
& the center divider mounts & pinch clamps.{PM us for more info. on these}.

    KP sunvisor

    Thanks for the pics.

Now that KP looks like mine.
KP is a 2 piece right?

How would you rate KP visors, better or worse than Dieterich.

    Can't tell from the pic.....
Do you have 1 or 2 center brackets on yours.
Looks like the center pinch clip is mounted directly in front of the rear view mirror. What nut/bolt is that bracket connected to on the visor, 2nd from bottom?

Also, I'm having trouble posting pics, I clicked on attachments, and insert image, and manage attachments, nothing worked...
so I'll try to add a pic of my mounting brackets below, with my signature. If the pic works, are these KP brackets.

    Thanks for your help.

Maybe now I fixed it so the pic will show.

Judging by your picture.... Those are the KP end brackets for sure.
The KP is an aftermarket visor that is as close to a GM visor that you will find.
I like the styling of them better than the Dieterich visors.
Only drawback is the KP visor wings are made of aluminum & can be easily damaged by a hail storm.
The Dieterich visors have steel wings & can hold up to a hail storm better.

    Factory 53-54 Chevy truck sunvisors.

What type of sun visor are these and can you get spare parts, such as the center bracket?

Without a clear picture of the under side mounting configuration..... it's tough to tell..... but I can narrow it down.

That is a 1949-1952 Pontiac sedan car sun visor.
Or it is a 1953-1954 Pontiac wagon/sedan delivery visor.

If it has the pinch clamp center mount.... it is ''49-''52 sedan.
If it is set up for the roof mount bracket.... it is ''53-''54 wagon/sedan delivery.

In any event..... it is too narrow to fit the 1947-1954 Chevy trucks.

The additional pictures you posted in a different topic confirm that this visor is for 1953 & 1954 Pontiac Station Wagons & Sedan Delivery.
Will also fit the 1953 & 1954 Chevy Station Wagons & Sedan Delivery.

Too narrow to fit 53 or 54 cars or the 1947-1954 trucks.
