I want to change out a 216 six. I have a 261 that just got in a big fire and was just rebuilt by AGAP in TX. I would like to know if the 292 six would be the way to go. I would like to put in a T5 five speed transmission. I would send the motor back to AGAP to be rebuilt reguardless of choice. The 261 looks just like the 235 but not many would recogonise the 292 with a 235 offy cover on it.

I really miss my truck. Buy insurance on yours and dont store gas. Bought experience speaking.
    Thanks

If you need another truck to get started on, call B.J. 704 320 0899. He has a few new ones. Good luck.

    Engine Choices

It depends on what you want to do :

I prefer the 261 but you'll maybe go faster with that honking 292 long stroker engine .

I'm still hoping to find a 261 for my '49 one day....

If your for sure going with a T5 then the 292 has a bolt up type bellhousing/clutch arrangement. This is probably offset by the wierd staggered side mounts on a 292. Every 292 I've experienced is very thirsty in the fuel department so I like a 261 better all around. If your going to really flog it then those seven mains on a 292 is a real plus.

Oh i sure hope not;) They really are great motors... Ask Nate if he could have my 228 in his chevy without a lot of hassle, I'd bet ya he would do it in a heartbeat!!! Unfortunately for you chevy guys its not an easy drop in...

Now if you would have said the front end being used as boat anchors, then maybe...maybe that is believable:D

    All in fun!!

    I Don't Think So....

It looks a little short for a 292 Thinwall stroker engine  .

Wrong rockerbox too ~ I've never seen an early two stud rockerbox on a Thinwall Inliner .
