It's a worthwhile upgrade but not used much in town as it takes time to kick back down when you're zizzing along @ 65 on the I-10 freeway and traffic suddenly bunches up... .

That being said , it depends on what tranny you currently have ~ the '55 > non synchro first gear tranny is a good 'un IMO and plenty out there , not too $pendy , plan to go through it and replace all bearings & the output yoke seal before installing it .

I , personally , don't hook up the gorvernor , this way I can use overdrive in second gear , this will allow you to zoom over Kellog Hill for example but care must be taken to never use it in first and always kick it out long before you're near your stopping point as attempting to back up whilst the sun gear is engauged will *instantly* wreck the overdrive by jamming the sprag clutch ~ this is why it's not supposed to be used in town , open highway only .

I see these trannies @ the Long beach Swap meet often , Po-Mona too but at 2 X the price .

If others here have differing thoughts , go with them .

I've got a dandy 235 with a 3 speed overdrive saginaw on it. All appear to be in good shape out of a 55' sedan. The motor appears to have been rebuilt and is blue with blue- flame decals on it. I am in Greeneville Tennessee, between Knoxville and Johnson City. Also has the generator/power steering combo unit on it. Great original AAir Cleaner. I'll let it go for the going swap meet price around here, which is usually on the low end of the scale.

I was keeping it as a spare for my 47' but I need the space in the garage moreso.
