I am glad I found this forum. I was surfing, doing some research on putting a saginaw 2 line 4 speed tranny in my '49 GMC FC102. I have had this truck a few years now and work is coming along as fast as the wife will let it. I regeared the rear end with patricks 3.55 and are currently rebuilding the original 228. bored .03 over, new bearings, new pistons, valve job with hardened seats, and a cam grind. Going with a new intake with a 4 barrel and the fenton headers. Cleaned and Painted the frame. and was wondering about the saginaw 4 speed. I have the original granny 4 speed and want to scoot along a little faster thru town. I know the 4th gear is 1:1 so I won't gain anything there, but 1st thru 3rd should see some improvement, eh? along with the regearing in the rearend it should be a nice ride. Who's done it? give me your wisdom
CTZR I have the two groove Saginaw in my 47' and what a world of difference it made in the drivability even with my 216. If I had it to do over again I would just do the Saginaw on an open shaft, and change out the rear-end with something else. But...I see you already re-geared the rear-end so no biggy there. Go for it, as long as SWMBO gives you the cash and doesn't stop favors!! Welcome to the forum by the way. Flashlight
