Hello, Does anyone know what the proper plug gap for a 250 with an HEI distributer instead of the old points system would be? Points system calls for a gap of 35 thousands, but with electronic ignition shouldnt the gap be hotter? The Butcher::
I just picked up another 64 that has a 230 that has HEI. My question concerns the timming. With the gap @ .045 does the timming stay @ 4 degrees befor TDC?
Plug gap doesn't affect or change timing.....The only thing that can effect timing other than worn out parts is point dwell, dwell changes timing but timing doesn't change dwell and since you are running HEI you won't have a problem....Big Tim
8-10 degrees BTDC would be a good ignition timing for a 283. If you are running HEI make sure you disconnect the vacuum advance before you time it. Also the HEI uses manifold vacuum instead of ported vacuum....Big Tim
