Now that the weather is cooling off (mid 80's) here in S.E. Texas, I thought it would be a good day to put a few miles on the old girl. My two youngest still think it's cool to ride in a piece of old iron. Don't ask the teenagers. No AC & speed under 75? Would go on a rare occassion. Hope to get out more in the next 6-8 months as it cools down, she does'nt get much exercise between June and October. Took a few pictures, hope you fellas enjoy.

Nice JW. Exactly what these rigs are for on a cooler Saturday. Glad the kids like it. Mine 26, 22 and 19 think my '51 is very cool. I guess they come around after a while.

    Great looking truck.

Jerry, your son has grown a foot since we met in May! I'm loving this weather too! I'm surprised we haven't crossed paths on Telge Rd or Spring Cypress in the last 2 weeks!

THANKS! Great pictures! Looks like the little one understands how cool running boards are! I like the side boards and the box you have in the back. Did you make those or did they come with it?
    Anyway~ Keep on truckin'!

    Good question Zig.

I was going to ask the same thing. Have you had your truck out Ken? I saw a beutifully restored green AD on Telge the other day. A real nice black one also. Guys are on the road with the cooler weather.
Your right Ken my son is growing like a weed. That reminds me I need to take the truck and get back out to the Niftee 50's cruise night before it's done for the year.

    more than just good weather

JW - looks like an awesome day all around. spending a day like this with those you love - family and truck (that drives) - and the nice weather is just a bonus. Smiles and memories all around. I am envious of all those of you that can do this. Love the pics! What are the dimensions of the wood you used on the sideboards? And i have a clearance issue on my sidemount tire - what size are your tires and how much clearance does it give you between the corner of the cab and the fender indent? thanks!

The wood I used on the side racks is 1x3 which is 3/4x2 1/2. The tires I have on my truck are LT215/85R16 but the spare is a P225/70R16. It was a freebie that fit in the spot. I would only use it in a pinch. I have one inch clearance from the cab to the tire. It fits snug against the rear fender cut out.
    Hope this helps.

JW - good info. Thanks, that all will help. i want to get some proper sized oak curing for sideboards so i can stain it next spring to match my bed. I am sure it matters just how centered the spare mount is, but i did not want my tire to even be touching the fender as i am afraid it would eventually rub and wear and rust. i am looking at a 5.50 x 16 (not even sure exactly what size that is) but it is a whitewall and i think might look good as a spare mostly for aesthetics and only use it if i am stranded in a pinch (it would be my only bias - which i am sure is not good to mix with radials for safety reasons). Thanks again - yours looks awesome!

The ride i have whas owned by a farmer whom lived nearby Fredricksburg in Texas . Where are you located ? It looks like the weather is hot out there and that you need all the airco you can get!

    Thanks for sharing your pictures.

You're right Martinius. It's only about 200 miles from Cypress to Fredericksburg, Tx. Cypress, like Magnolia where I am, and Tomball where Ken's 50 is, are all on the West, or Northwest side of Houston. As for the temperature, Hot is kinda relative. Not as hot here as it is further south in Texas. I came from the Corpus Christi area and it is noticeably better up here. (Corpus is 250 miles Southwest of Houston and west of Corpus the temperature routinely reaches 105 or so in the summer, with around 80 to 95% humidity). FYI, It's about 950 miles clear across Texas, either from East to West, or North to South. Kinda big.:) We do enjoy the weather when it gets a little cooler, and drier. Before I forget, That's a really nice '54. It always makes me smile to see Happy Kids. :D Still working on My G.
