Thanks everyone. Nate: You are right, I'm not good at this bidding and get too impatient. I do appreciate everyone's guidance, and I need to not bid until I hear from you all. I just hate this part of finding a truck. Very indecisive. Charles: Are these listings from Craigslist, something I should consider within my $10,000 budget and considering that I would have to pay to have someone do the work?
Yes they are, I type in 235 chevy truck or 235 chevy engine and get the trucks showing up. By changing the last state letters on the craigslist addy you get the different states to look at; ca changed to nv get nevada as an example. Good luck and take your time and get what you want.
Well Nate was right on about the blue 1950 truck: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0502787748&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT His reserve was at $4,400 So I am trying to slow down.
Sandy. The Mecum auction is Thursday through Saturday down at Bartle Hall. Why don't you go down there and see if you can find a nice truck there to buy? Tony
you have been outbid - CONGRATS! Whew! Well, it looks like you are off the hook now on the black truck because someone has now bid it at 8600. I would recommend you stay away from this black truck. You can do much better for less. Can you go look at the blue truck? he now has interior pics posted at least more to look at. I like Tony's idea about going to local auction if that is close by. You should practice restraint and just go look - knowledge is power. Having a good understanding of what is out there and also deciding what kind of truck and improvements you want as the end result will go a long way. Good luck and enjoy the journey along the way as well as your final destination.
For what its worth In my opinion, its better to buy a $500 piece of junk and get it towed home because you know exactly what your buying, its more satisfying to get stuck in and restore (or whatever you wish to do to it) and you have not blown all your budget in one hit! its so easy to buy a shiney piece of junk someones faffed about with to make it look better than it really is for high bucks then drive it home, from the moment you hand over you hard earned you start a downward spiral of discovering things wrong with it that just make you more disheartened and disappointed, it then becomes a struggle to finish the project as you gotta go backwards before going forwards. with a piece of junk to start with every step is a step forwards and you feel better about the project, the only reason to buy trucks like the first two is if you just looking for a runner, one you can just play with at the weekend but nothing too serious, not for resto or anything too involved. " Faffed About " Old Trucks Or here , in So. Cal. ' Chingered ' or maybe ' Feregado ' , it depends on your dielect... . Huh , I thought buying cheap junk was just because i'm : A. poop and B. to stupid to learn no matter how many times I buy a clunker just before it gets crushed for scrap and claim I got a " deal ! " . when it's just another old junker... Back on point , I don't think our erstwhile student here , said he knows how nor wants to rebuild a 50 year old junker...
I Believe , It is a comical hat Neil... . No one seems to have noticed I wrote ' poop ' when I meant ' cheap '....... C'est La Vie , No ? .
Days like these Well some days the kids are all looking out the window daydreaming. Not listening to the teacher Nate
Yep ; I believe that was me long ago , always looking out the window as I plenty of time to read after dark . I screwed up and missed a lot of good ed-U-kashun because the learning I could use right then , was outside , all I had to do was go listen to the Old Timers and work my butt off.... Oops . C'est la Vie , my fault no one else's (different from the whiny kiddies to-day , no ?) .
Edukashun Nate, I went to high school behind an elder brother and sister who both went on to get uni degrees an good jobs, all I ever heard from the teachers was "your not as clever as you elder siblings" needless to say I was off and working by 15yrs old, maybe I'm not as bright, but hey, I ain't had a bad life, had quite a few adventures, some good, some not so good, but it beats the hell out of a 9-5 office jobby, right Nate! Skool? I prefer ol skool
'47 ! But , No underbody pix and a vauge description along with a bad wreck in the driver's doorpost , poorly repaired , not one word about how well it runs and stops... Looks like a $6,000 truck _if_ it's not rusty and runs & drives well .
